As a 101 lover, I would have considered this as my keyboard that also has one of my favorite synths built in and looks gorgeous (the only black synth I say that about). But at this price point, I’m out, especially if it doesn’t even have velocity (which is the only thing I find useful in a keyboard, don’t care about aftertouch, mini keys etc.).
I’m also surprised how much space the keys take up if they’re not at all the focus of the synth. Would have preferred to have longer faders instead. Does anybody know how long the faders are compared to 01a, 101 or other clones?
In reference to the video demo, I was surprised by how little it sounds like an SH-101. Not saying that’s a terrible thing to be unique, just unexpected. I was fully prepared for it to be the ultimate 101 clone (soundwise).
There will definitely be some talk/buzz here once it’s available for sale and I’m sure some people will also be in line to buy it, but at $2000+ USD it’s likely to be a difficult market for them to inject themselves into.
I’ll be interested to hear videomusik’s “one month take” on fingerprints. The finish looks like fingerprint oils will be difficult to deal with and I’m wondering if that’s something they already accounted for, or if it will end up with a bunch of little oil marks and the spots you touch most.
Heya. I just kinda happened to be in the right place at the right moment as a backer to get one of the first copies. I backed it back in the days because I liked (my experience) of the sound of SH-101 through plugins and what not.
I’ve never seen or touched an actual SH-101 though.
My quick video was more meant to show that it was an actual physical device. Essentially proving I wasn’t making sh!t up.
I have no keyboard or SH-101 skills, knowledge, or otherwise, and I will ask all of you to refrain from judging the sound quality, or SH-101 fidelity from what I posted. Please also forgive the hastily put together loop/patch. I am sure someone with more appropriate production skills can demonstrate its capabilities to its fullest.
I understand. I’m just saying that perhaps I’m not putting it through the proper moves to judge its sound?
I tend to use env → pwm on every single sh-101 like instance I use, because that is the sound I like. Do not know if that matters.
But if course you can see what the settings of the pots are, and if you know your device…

I haven’t listened to your demos yet nor have I ever played an original 101, but I’d still say the sound would be easily recognized if it sounded anything like a 101.
I’d find it kinda cool if it had the fantastic 101 interface but a different sound btw, there’s already quite a lot of clones.
Alessandro Cortini worked with nine inch nails and has access to social media, not sure if that makes him a synthfluencer. Also, not sure if he was a backer or was just sent a promo unit.
Either way, it’s a sore subject for some people and it’s still a very expensive mono synth so opinions are bound to be varied.
It seems like a nice piece of hardware but value is always going to be in the eyes of the person doing the assessing.
I certainly don’t blame anyone for having a strong opinion in one direction or the other. My opinion is that I can’t afford whatever it’s going to cost so it’s unlikely to impact me too much at this point.
I do think that it’s rather strange to get this close to launch without an official price disclosure, but I guess that’s their perogative to try and build some hype using carrots before the stick comes out.
It comes from the 2023 statement made by the creator, at superbooth, to a member here and re-quoted several times in this thread.
There has not been an official statement about retail price since then, so we are going off of the last known information until something more substantiated appears.
In 2023 there was also a statement that it would ship in the fall, which it did not, so there is very little way to corroborate this information until an official statement is made, as it may be below that, or above.
I looked at the kickstarter earlier just to make sure there was no updated statements about the current price and if there is, it is very well hidden, so I assume there is not.
