Saving parameters on a machine

i know this is a newbie question. just got my machine drum and i really love it this is my first piece of serious hardware.

how do i save my parameter adjustments?
example: im using the “resample” kit i spent a lot of time P locking a mid tom to do a high pitch lead sound. i thought P locking would save?

i changed to a new pattern and back and although my kick drum and bass drum P locks saved (i put those on in a different session) the parameters i most recently changed did not save.

do i have to save this as a whole new kit? this has been happening to me on multiple patterns a program, im spending alot of time super fine tuning a kit only to loose all that information. please help im sure its something really simple im overlooking.

Yes.

It’s just the way the Machinedrum (and Monomachine) works.

Hello,

I have a MD SPS-1. It’s a great machine. The more time you put in it the more value it gives to you.

I own the machine about 8 years now. I learned how to work with the parameter-locks for about one year ago. But… sometimes the parameter locks will not work anymore. The parameter becomes black after the movement, but it will not give a sonic change.

Is there anybody who recognise this problem?

Or has it to do with the battery?
Can I rule out that it is not the battery?

Btw. I bought the Analog Rytm too, but since it has been placed near his digital friend I only play with… his digital friend!

PLocks are not unlimited - if you are using a lot of them, you will eventually run out.

Maybe that is what is happening?

Or maybe another p-lock, on like a CTRL-ALL or CTRL-8p machine is overriding them. Or an LFO?

PLocks are not unlimited - if you are using a lot of them, you will eventually run out.

This is new info for me. What do you mean “a lot”? A lot globally?

I think a lot is per pattern.

I swear its in the manual somewhere…might poke around the notes sections in there.

I hit the limit on a few patterns, it’s 64 locks per pattern…

I know the limit. I saw the ‘warning’ that I used them to much.

This morning I started to make a pattern with plocks. It works, but after a while it stops working. I get cazy.

Lfo’s are also not working.

In the manual they say that the battery has to replace after 6 years.
I own the Machinedrum for about eight years now… so…

(And especially the plocks is what make the machine so great).

Your LFOs dont work at all? What happens?

I just meant that an LFO, CTRL-8p, or CTRL-ALL Plock from another track could be set and could be overriding a p-lock you have set on the track itself.

However, I think there is a hierarchy here in terms of what overrides what, and I think a track p-lock might be the highest priority, so I am not sure.

Here I am again. (there are unfortunately other things to do).

I started to try to make a film of my movements with the plocks, so that you can see what i’m doing.
Camera on my Machinedrum and go! But… the machine works fine from that moment. Go figure.
I hope I can make a film very soon.

So glad with your quick answers.

Another issue. How can I make a film with good sound? The mic on my camera will pick up the sound, but there must be a better way.
Going through my Fireface? But how?

Re making a video with good sound:

If your camera doesn’t have a line input, the best way to go is to record audio into the computer separately and combine audio+video afterwards. There’s a decent free video editing programme for Windows that I’ve used for this purpose, but can’t remember the name atm.

I found out some interesting things.

Fortunately my Machinedrum is working perfect also the parameter-locks.

But…the video above is made when LogicX is in the game.
So everything goes well, but when I start Logic, the p-locks stops working and the Machinedrum sounds boring without the sonic excitement of the p-locks.
I Spoke someone from the Apple help-center specialised in Logic-cases.
He said that it is not possible to record the notes with the parameter-locks!
I did not expect that. What a dissapointment. The only way to record this is to record directly in audio.

I can’t believe this.
Do you guys have other experiences?

Cyriel pLocks dont transmit over midi unfortunately. The only way to record them, is by recording audio into the DAW of your choice.

This has always been the case as far as I am aware.

Overbridge should solve this issue I guess but will not work with the MD. It will function only with A4, AK and AR. MD’s hardware doesn’t support midi over USB (only using TM-1 for backing up and transferring data/samples).

One way to record plocks is to set up separate outs on your MD and record them as stems into Logic or Ableton or whatever. Each track will have its own pLocks and will be recorded separate.

So when I want to record audio out of my Machinedrum, I must do it manually. I mean, I first have to start recording in Logic, than start the Machinedrum and cut the file later to place it accurate on a bar.
That is the only way?

By the way, I just heard a great track from you!
