Saving My Songs - All Machines

my songs need to get saved.

been working about 6 hours today. got some cool crap. and i’m building stuff.

now, i know… rt(f)m. done that. and each time i’ve missed something. during my righting i even lost from the snapshot in machinedrum when i was writing. i just forgot that i had to save the snapshot not just the kit. sigh.

it’s all good. i got it all back.

help me see if i got this all right.

MACHINEDRUM

snapshots hold kits. if you adjust what kits are where you must save your snapshot.

kits hold machines and their specific settings. if you adjust content in your kits, i.e. tweak a sound or change what machines are where you must save here.

patterns just are. they’re how you leave them. the manual says that when you edit patterns you are working directly the pattern memory so there is no need to save.

but… if i move from one snapshot to another and i didn’t save (bad idea) do i lose the patterns?

ANALOG FOUR

projects hold songs, patterns, kits, and sound pool. the state of the analog four is preserved through power up & power down. so the only time i need to save is before i switch projects. if i’m not leaving the project, no worries, everything will be as it was when i powered down.

patterns & songs are part of the project. simply save them before you leave your project.

sounds are the building blocks of kit. you only need to save a sound if you want to use it in a different kit.

kits hold the sounds for the 4 tracks and settings for FX and CV. if i have sound THE SAW loaded in kit 1 and i make adjustments that sound in that kit and SAVE that kit the adjusted state of the sound is saved, but no change is made to the SOUNDs saved state that it was adjusted from.

ANALOG RYTM

see above
projects are projects
kits are kits
sounds are sounds
tracks are ???

yes.

On the A4 I recommend to save kits and patterns manually too. I had some cases where stuff didn’t save after switching off…one time even a pattern vanished (tracksounds stayed…) while the machine was on…

didn’t lose anything but definitely going to need to dig in to the analog four saving scheme. not sure i trust my understanding of sounds and kits and tracks.

oh dear.

Not sure how long you have been using Elektron gear, but I’ve come to accept that I’ll probably lose all my work within 6 months to a year of getting a new one, due to some SNAFU. Best to save, back up, and record everything often.

ugh.
