After a few exchanges, including some helpful advice from @shigginpit, here we go.
The battle is open to everyone, regardless of their setup.
The concept is quite simple : create a single loop with imposed samples and jam it.
The idea is to be able to do the best but quickly.
Aside from these constraints, there are no restrictions on the number of tracks or the use of effects, etc.
Since the battle isn’t limited to a single musical genre, there won’t be any competition; that wouldn’t make sense.
The goal is to share our approach to musicmaking and to appreciate all the musical directions we can take, all starting from the same starting point.
I think it sounds good! Very nice to have the non-competitive clause explicitly spelled out. If I have some time, I’ll see if I can have a play around with the samples as well.
Yeah, you’re kicking things off with something I’m not used to hearing. Very special, I like the mechanical side of the rhythm. The sound design is interesting, it makes me think about how I use samples.
This is super dope. I could hear this in a score for a movie where some bad shit is going down at night in London. It’s like unsettled and boiling. Really cool
Thanks for this OP, nice challenge to get back to basics. Planning on doing it on as many of my samplers as I find time to. Just gave me the push I needed to wipe my P-6 and get into it. First attempt, quick and dirty on the Digitakt, 4 bar pattern with trig conditions for variations, playing the mutes in one pass, vinyl sim on the 404 in lieu of mixing.
Thanks @Jord.Lim for organising this battle.
Here is my track.
I loaded all the samples on my DTII and started mangling some of them, then I created a drum beat and played the bass line directly in DTII.
I add the chords and melody.
Some effects and bit reduction and then played live.
The DTII in these scenarios is the best sampler, I started with ableton but I got stucked quite soon.
