Sample Polyphony

is the A4 a four voice poly ?! it has discrete circuits per voice
does the tempest sum digital and analogue circuits per vca ?!
is it a drum machine & a six voice poly ?!
can the A4 act like an oberheim 4 voice, can it act with a common voice structure ?!
plus there isn’ one vca per track, there’s one per voice
i’m not sure if this is semantics, but i don’t see why you can’t think of this as relating to polyphony

it’s easy to set up the dynamic midi voice allocation, i’ve done it for other synths and the a4 before it got poly, that’s all electron do inside the a4

I’m starting to fucking hate you. Yesterday, you accused me of not having a RYTM for no apparent reason. And here you are again, being an annoying troll. This forum would benefit greatly from an ignore-user feature so I could just make you be invisible to me.
Hate is such a strong word for someone jus sharing there opinion and has no place here imo, maybe go for a walk instead?.. id rather decent moderation of those unable to control themselves than everyone simply ignoring each other tbh.
If I recall Lars apologised for his confusion in the other thread you mention, no?! If there’s more to it tho then my bad but still totally disagree with throwing hate around, even if it’s just another word to you.
I hate the dude because he’s trolled me twice in two days. “If you want an mpc buy an mpc” is a real asshole thing to say to a legitimate discussion about potential RYTM features.
I think it’s down to perception and that’s a difficult thing online admittedly. I think it’s fair enough to be blunt sometimes, it doesn’t make you a troll which is just a cliche word most of the time. Even so Tho there’s no place for hate here… Lars seems a reasonable user that I’ve noticed post more helpful posts than feature requesting ones, which counts for something imo and thats that he’s probably not a troll.

EDIT - he apologised immediately for thinking you didn’t have a RYTM. Again not a troll!!

Honestly, I’m not expecting this type of functionality to be implemented into the RYTM ever. Especially, after the second post from nearly a year ago when I learned the Octatrack didn’t even have this ability. The RYTM would be capable of it, hardware wise, but at this point, I couldn’t imagine Elektron wanting to put forth the effort to add it.

As far as what one should expect from the RYTM; I don’t want an MPC, and with the RYTM’s limited sample playback capabilities, it can do most of what I’d want an MPC to do for me (besides sequencing external gear). I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a bit more though. I’d like to see more precision with adjusting the sample start point; this doesn’t mean I should just go buy an MPC. I’d like to be able to record rolls; this doesn’t mean I should just go buy an MPC. I’d like better management of samples, and improved ergonomics with the whole process of getting samples into the RYTM; this does not mean I should just go buy an MPC.

i can see what ur gettin at but that is a hack to me… and yes i think this is defo goin into semantics land. one VCA per track or voice (does a track not == one voice in AR? o.0)

can we not just agree that from a design point of view there is little point in polyphony for a drum machine synthesiser? much like making a chocolate tea pot, it might taste nice, but wont make a good cuppa tea.

Ok, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. And “hate” was a harsh word to use in this hate-filled world. His only interactions with me have been annoying so far. But yeah, whatever…

ok i think you’re off track now mate - i answered this post as per title “sample polyphony”. other functionality you’re suggesting has not been reduced to GTFO buy an MPC - at least not by me.

Idk. RYTM’s sample playback ability is definitely being marketed, and with sample loops. If you read my previous post, you’ll see that I definitely agree polyphony for the RYTM will never see the light of day, but you can’t argue against its usefulness. I have to find work-arounds to achieve the same effect because I like to work with loops. I’d like to work with loops that have reverb tails, or pad samples with long release that don’t get abruptly cut off. My interest in working with loops in the RYTM is also a reason why I’m a proponent for BPM settings to be saved per pattern. Different strokes for different folks if you don’t use looped samples I guess.

Ooof, loops in a drum sampler are no fun due to precisely the issue you’re having. Why not take the loop and cut it up into hits? As for reverb tails, why aren’t you using the reverb on the AR?

Personally, while I did use loop on the OT, never in a million years will I even try to use loops in the AR (or MD).

we could prob go round the houses on this but at the end of the day you have to adapt to products, they cant adapt to you (unless you’re willing to DIY / design and build yourself). different strokes for diff folks indeed.

as an example, i use the loop parameter to kinda scan thru short samples, or create fills, or to make wavetables… but not in the conventional looped sample beat approach. I have made some pad like noises with long decay, but was always monophonic. often when i hit a limitation like that i’ll use the cutting off / gating effect as part of the phrase.

ps. not denying poly is useful, just technically impossible to add once you have gone to manufacture. i’d rather peeps would not bang their head against a brick wall - tis all

12tracks / 8voices drummachine / synthesiser mono / poly chocolateteapot / chocolatecafetière troll / curt
relax
playrecords has it right, props to prints too
okay, back to OP topic methinks

my bad, forgot about that part, but surely that is due to the choked voices reducing from 12 to 8.
more cats needed <3 (sry OP)

I’m sorry man, I can totally understand you think I’m annoying. I shouldn’t have written that stuff. It was disrespectful to you and to the others in an ongoing discussion.

We ok?

Yeah, we cool; thanks for that. Hopefully, we can have some more positive interactions going forward.

ROFL

can you use the delay to get clean repeats? this is something i do on the octatrack to get more voices going.
