I have downloaded a couple of sample packs for my Octatrack. I followed the instructions and connnect the flash card via system -> USB Disck Mode then I create a folder on the root with the name of the pack and inside there I copy the sets folder and the samples pack. I eject the flash card from the computer. I select the new set but the problem is that the tracks are not able to relocate the samples. The message I get is ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND, and then the file name is displayed. So do I have to reassign the path manually for each single sample? What am I doing wrong that the path get lost ?
put the samples in your set/audio folder.
there is also a setting that prevents the missing sample error if you move your samples around after you save a project,
settings > personalize > save samples to: project directory.
So I have mounted a new set. I have selected settings > personalize > save samples to: project directory.
I have gone to USB disk mode and mounted the set and the samples. but still every track is giving me ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND
The folder where your samples are located needs to be the same where the links are pointing at in the samples slots lists (Flex and Static lists).
On the CF card you should have an architecture such as:
*Set folder/ Audio folder (named « Audio ») -> this is in case you don’t save samples within the project folder.
*Set folder / project folder -> in case you activated the Save samples to the folder option BEFORE working with the samples.
If i understood correctly, you started a work with the first option and now want to switch to the second. The second option will take effect only from the moment you activate it. Unless you move the samples manually from their original folder to the project folder, the list of links pointing at them (AKA samples slots) cannot update itself by magic.
Ok, no, It looks like I am not explaining myself clearly…but thank you so much to everyone for the explanations!!
I have downloaded a package from elektron website and it looks like this:
where one folder contains the set and the other the samples.
No matter which way I upload the files on the 8T : arming a set , selecting the option save samples to : proj directory and i transfer everything in one folder ( the one named Project220607), including in there also the audio samples and/or I drag the samples in the audio folder and in the set folder (the one named Project220607) I leave only the set files *stdr and *work. STILL THE PATH IS NOT RECOGNIZED AND I AM GETTING CRAZY .
Maybe its just me, but from your description I think you are getting some terms wrong.
A set is a top level directory containing an AUDIO folder and multiple project folders. The files you are mentioning (*strd, *.work) are project files not set files. A set has no files at all.
Within each project folder there are one or two files (project.work and project.strd) which are simple text files you can view with a text editor. These files list all used samples and where the OT is looking for them.
Here is an example snippet from a project.strd file for the sample used in the global flex slot 1:
The PATH setting shows where the OT is looking for the sample. In this case it looks for it one folder up (the two dots at the beginning of the path) and from there in
Your tip was exactly what I needed Tnussb!
Finally I have managed to find the right path and assigned it to the samples. Everything now is finally working ! Thx a lot !!!
many various sets and pools lead only to confusion, end of the day…
while a solid customized folder structure will make sure u’ll never get lost…
leave ur cv card in the ot…
do all ur audio content management on the computer…run ot in usb mode from time to time to exchange between ur overall ot folder on ur desktop, which is ur must have back up copy of ur card, whenever something new happened on ur ot or vice versa…
be aware of the fact that all the possible power of ur ot is, first of all, based on the concept of sample chains…means one audio file of any size/length contains many different “one shot” samples/audiosnippets…
therefor, any standard sample pax are pretty much useless as long u did not put it’s single content in some sort of order, organized and bounced them into chains upfront…
Many of these parent and child folders have different names in their project.strd file or work file. You’ll have to rename these parent files to match what Tnussb has provided. Worked like a charm. Thanks man!
I know im a bit late to the conversation here but I was researching this myself as it’s not super clear how to install the sound packs you buy from Elektron or from elsewhere. But I did find a manual with explains it pretty well so I thought id share if you haven’t seen it
