Ah like that… so you need to upgrade your knowledge… let me help a bit:
in the dark-ages of midi… some genius decided, that they needed a format to send samples via midi to a machine…
they called this “midi-sample-dump” u might be able to find people who call it “midi-sample-data” …
they did not have things like USB at the time (20+ years ago) … Some samplers at the time did SCSI (this is simular to IDE/SATA … its a way to connect peripherals together… like harddisks/tapestreamers/zipdisks/samplers … and to my knowledge, allot of people liked SCSI over MDS, because it was allot faster / easier to manage…
A machinedrum… knows how to deal with mds … and so does AR … so you should be able to send sample-data from machinedrum to AR.
because it knows how to send it… (the correct format)
Your field-recorder… just does not know how to do this…
When you connect your field-recorder to the AR via usb… nothing will happen… because the AR will have no clue what to do with that field-recorder… big chance is: they both slave-units… (say what!!!) Acording to usb-specifications… 1 device is the host… and the others slave to it…
when you connect a slave to another slave… it will just not work… (thats why you cant stick a usb-controller into your octatrack… same idea… they just dont talk together)
the AR, is a sample player… not a sample-recorder… so you cannot connect your recorder via audio-connection… and record it into your AR…
so: If you want to fill your AR with a recorder, without the use of a computer (which will do most/all of the conversion for ya) … you need a sampler that knows how to do MDS … (which leaves you with a few old samplers to choose from)
If I was in your shoes… I would record whatever i want in my field-recorder… Chop it into usuable samples on my computer. and then
use C6 to dump the samples in my AR… and have fun with it…
lets say: for argument sake: you got the worlds most insanely recorder that actually does mds… you still need to chop your samples.
as the ar itself does not have sample-chopping utilities… at best… you can play with sample-start/end parameters… not fun if you have a 10minute recording of something…
anyways… here ya have it… all reasons why i logically think, what you want… doesn work…
