Hi guys, I noticed that if I load a bassline made with live/logic into the ot the sound file (wav/aif) plays with a bad distortion on bass frequencies.
copying back from the card into the mac the file plays really well , full of extended bass frequecies and without any distortion.
The ot plays the file with distortion even in the preview from the slot , not only in playback mode.
This is really bad cause I had to cut every sample with eq in a hard way to remove the bass range to make the mix cleaner in the ot and to avoid distortion, but as well my tracks now sounds really "upright " and a bit slim , with that hitting medium/hi freq .
I think this is a bad issue elektron should solve.
any of you have my same problem?
I’ve done a face to face with other samplers (akai mpc2000 and 1000, korg esx , roland SP 404, Ensoniq ASR-x) and no one of them have any problem playing the files or “mixing them” (everything without cutting the bass range) .
what’s wrong with the octatrack?
If you have normalised samples set to +12dB in the attrib options menu, maybe you are just clipping levels?
Saying that I think the converters do something weird with the bass on the octatrack, sounds like a kind of compression to me, might just be me though.
This should not be happening. Maybe post a project and one of the bass samples? I’d give it a look for ya.
no normalization for me…
I noticed that the converter on the ot cannot handle serious bass range if it is not mixed , equed and compressed perfectly, but that’s not right for every performance and the tools on ot cannot do that , so it’s a long and busy work on the pc…
In my mind I should load samples and don’t bother with all this work on the pc… at this point I prefer to use my laptop live, and get the right eq cut and compression during soundchecks , to get the best results tuning the songs with the sound system and acoustic I 'll use for the live performance , because every performance/club/stage has different acoustic and different sound systems etc…
my hope was someone to tell it’s going to be a new os with this problem solved…
I’d be willing to give the sample(s) a go in my OT, too. This doesn’t sound right at all.
are you sure you don’t have any filter distortion on?
Are u playing the samples with timestrech turned on?
If yes then that’s your problem probably.
Thanks dude. I think just passing something through the in and the out on the octatrack imparts something on the bass end, e.g. not sampling it, just using the thru machines.
