Not sure if anyone will find this useful, but I have been making a generic MIDI template in Ableton for myself, and thought I’d share it.

The purpose of this is to have building blocks in place to create sample chains of synths, primarily chords and progressions.

Here is a breakdown:

-The first track is simply 1/16th chromatic notes over 4 bars.

-Following that are groups of basic chord types. If you open the groups you will see that all inversions of the chords are available. The first track in the group is the chord in root position. Following that are all inversions of the chord. The titles include figured bass notation for the inversions. If you don’t know figured bass, the groups basically progress (regarding triads) as root, first inversion, second inversion, and (regarding 7th chords), root, first inversion, second inversion, and third inversion. The chords all progress chromatically at 1/16th notes over 4 bars.

-Towards the end are diatonic chord progressions, in both triads and 7th chords, for Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, and Melodic Minor scales. They progress diatonically through the octave at 1/8th notes over 1 bar. The progressions can be moved about to different keys and voicings as needed.

Again, this is all for the purpose of having building blocks in place. The first few sections seem a little pointless, but I’d rather be as complete as possible when building this. I’m sharing this in case people would like to expand upon it and tailor it to their own needs.

So far this template includes basic chords and progressions. I am planning on expanding this to include extended chords, modes, scales, and possibly a variety of common chord progressions. This will be more useful for slicing up a variety of arpeggios, basslines, chord progressions, etc.

If people find this useful, I’ll continue to share as I expand.

I feel like a F****** INSANE person making this btw.

EDIT: fixed broken link

where is the link please i need it!

please - id love this

Sounds cool - hook us up.

old thread! do you have the link? i would love the midi templates - thanks!

Wow, I really lost track of this thread. Sorry for the year + delay, here’s a link to the template.
