Sample Based instrument with kits and lot of memory and FXs?

I’m wondering if there is any sampler that would replace Ableton Drum Racks.
This is probably silly, and I should probably keep Ableton Drum Racks as my primary drum source, with a dedicated Midi controller, which is a solution I’m quite happy with.
But who knows, maybe there’s a piece of hardware that would work for me ? I’m simply considering to have a dedicated piece of hardware for a dedicated duty.
I would produce in Ableton, then resample drum slots, make a kit out of them, and load kits in the hypothetical machin.

it would :

  • be sequenced externally
  • have a great MIDI implementation
  • have “unlimited” number of kits of “unlimited” sounds
  • kits should be loadable very quickly (3 seconds max)
  • play engine should have ADSR (not AR envelope)
  • have nice FX that are enjoyable to play live

Analog Rytm, that I own and love very much, is ALMOST perfect. I love the form factor of mk1, it sounds great, FXs are ok, and Scenes+Perf make it fun to use live. Also, it has kits that are “instantly” recallable via the use of empty patterns.
BUT : The main limitation is the 128 sample limit. Also the 12 shared voices + “only” 128 kits available.
So in the end it’s a no-go for me.

Any ideas ?

Maschine + as a drum machine is amazing and does everything you are asking. Also has scenes and very good sounding effects. The 8 knobs can also be set as macros.

Some people will say a mpc and it’s a nice device but the maschine is 10 times more playable.

Thanks ! I never looked at it.

Sounds like an Akai MPC…

Synthstrom Audio Deluge with community firmware (for better FX, Ableton-like clip launching and much more). Checks all the points IMHO.

Thanks, not at all interested in using a sequencer, but I’ll check !

Which model ? I’m not sure how the “kit structure” works on MPCs.
Also, they don’t seem “hands on” for FXs.

How about a Push 2 or 3?

Modern MPC is, at it’s core, a choice of form factors. The MPC family is a lot like pizza: whether it’s cut into triangles or squares it all pretty much tastes the same.

Nobody talks about it anymore, but mpc has a koass pad built in you can use… but assign effects and twiddle knobs like anything else…

Any modern MPC, my choice is Live 2.
For effects you can use the yx pad. Or you can assign any of the 4 sets of 4 knobs to any value. On the Force you have macros so one knob can control multiple parameters

How’s the data structure ?
Do it have kits, and can you quickly switch between a big (>100) amount of kits ?

MPC range, not force, has a lot workflow.
So you could have a project with a drum program and a few synths or sampler programs.
On the drum program you can just load a new kit or switch to one already in memory
