i really love my TEMPEST and the last week i tried to find out, why it feels in one way
so much more creative than my RYTM.
I guess i know now:
The TEMPEST has DIRECT access to pattern variations and sound manipulation at the same time.
So if the the RYTM would have ONE mode which - on the PERF and SCENE mode pages- gives access (instant or quant. change) to 32 pattern variations with different steps/lengths/timings and with different mod settings, that can be altered by pressure,
It would be the greatest feature for me.
It would make it incredible playable,
just like the TEMPEST.
It would solve all the
RYTM-being-a-bid-static problem,
I think even more than the coming
random.trig feature.
So as a former Tempest user you know the difference i try to point to.
If i can use the 12 pads per performance / scene mode
(of course 12, not 16/32 as written above) not only for the
modulations but at the same time for switching between pattern variations, fills,
breaks and so on, it would skyrocket the RYTMS performance.
I really wonder why Elektron did not since once you think about it,
it seems so natural and obvious, doesn’t it?
When the RYTM came out, Tempest OS had not been updated to some of the features it has now, so I’m not sure it was “obvious.”
Still I would definitely like to see Elektron borrow a few ideas from Tempest fer sure.
Just getting the “retrig” to be recorded would be nice, but so would a beat roll mode.
I could go on and on, but there’s a RYTM feature request thread that pretty much covers everything.
It’s likely to be random bug fixes here and there, but probably not much else.
I’m pretty happy with the Tempest the way it is. In the time I’ve had the Tempest, I’ve bought and sold something ridiculous like maybe 70 or 80 other machines. This includes 4x A4/AK, 2x AR, etc. Out of all the stuff the Tempest is the only one i’ve kept.
I’m a rock musician at heart and the Tempest is very rock and roll. It’s not as clinical and predictable as Elektron stuff, which I like. I pair it up with a Monomachine, Octatrack, and Reface CS. Works for me.
I ditched my Tempest “drum machine,” as soon as I watched the first comprehensive AR demo. I had an OT already, but now that I have the Dark Trinity, I would much rather have the Tempest where the A4 is. May never happen again though, I’m finally diving into some eurorack modules as soon as the Roland System 500 is available.
the tempest sequencer and alot of the features are super nice…
but i never coaxed one analog drum sound out of it that i thought was professional level and that is the most important aspect of a “drum machine” to me
Maxicosi goes hard.
It’s also a perfect example that Tempest really begs to be played by itself.
In other words, to get the most out of it, you have to devote your undivided attention to it.
I like that on one hand, but I’m a gear hound too.
That’s a silly thing to say man.[/quote]
I think a lot of people just don’t get the sounds they want out of it. It’s got it’s own personality which is really unique compared to a lot of drum machines that seem a bit stuck in 1980 sound-wise
I like it, it’s big, smudgy, a little obnoxious and rude. Like i said, rock and roll.
.
True, but it pairs REALLY well with the Octatrack. I like using the two of them alone with the stereo pair from the Tempest going into the OT as well as one or two single voices for synthy stuff.
Lately I’ve been jamming with just the Tempest, OT, and Reface CS. This is a lot of fun.
natrixgli, you need to stop fucking with my head.
Im trying to get into eurorack and use the A4 to sequence it using CV and the transpose feature. I dont need your lusty eyed temptations.
DAMNIT, this thread is making me rethink everything.
agreed, but the RYTM can do so much other things, that the only one i’m REALLY missing is - Instant one finger jumping between patterns.
You can of course already do instantly change patterns, but to have 12 alternative patterns/fills/breaks on each perf/scene mode page,
You would be able to PLAY with it musically. That’s what i tried to say. For me it would be the best thing to happen to the RYTM.
Sorry if i repeat myself but i hope somebody at ELEKTRON reads this
As for “small” setup OT/RYTM/TEMPEST/A4 (plus 1or 2 other synths) instead of modular:
For me it was a big relief to.go this way and musically much faster to do nice dub techno and such BUT i had to pull myself out of modular as i am NOT the one who can handle being tempted constantly very well (GAS!!!). Now it’s easier with my setup. And i absolutely love the Tempest/RYTM combi
A special “Mute - Mode” where you can play with Scene and Performance Macros and Mute and Unmute sounds at the same time would be an awesome AR feature…
Maybe but having fills/breaks /alternative patterns at your fingertips (instead choosing from the normal patterns) would maybe be even better, as you can prepare your mutes this way and then concentrate on performing (filtering, handling other gear etc)
