Rytm vs Digitakt: Performance

say you wanted to use both machines as sequencers/controllers for external gear (drum machines) for live set performance, what would you choose?

What? Just as sequencers? Then of course digitakt. Way cheaper and way ahead in terms of sequencing other stoff.

used mki is same price/cheaper than digitakt & has song mode/scenes

A used digitakt is around 500€. You have midi lfos and midi cc and 4 note poly if needed. If you need song mode look for an used octatrack. Midi sequencing on rytm is really thin. Wouldnt look there at all, just if you would also use the engines and want to sequence maybe one mono synth in addition

Definitely. Only midi notes between 12 and 60.

But if sequencing is really all you are looking for, why look for an expensive elektron box? Beatstep pro even has dedicated cv for drums.
If elektron digitakt or octatrack for shure

it wouldnt be just sequencing, since they both got sample playback (and rytms engines) i wanted to see how one would be able to utilize the rytms performance modes for external gear. not using any polyphonic synths, just drum machines

As far as I know you cant use any of rytms performance stuff for external stuff, but I am not quite shure.
Also almost identical digitakt has the edge in terms of sample playback. No loop points on rytm for example.

But if you purely need triggers for drums, rytm of course can do that

It can send defined Control Changes or NRPN, but nothing you can set.
Not made for external control.
