Rytm to DAW - sound quality

Hi All,

I’d like to buy the machine for everything what it is but I’d use it only for production purposes, no live shows. I’ve read and seen everything I could find about the Rytm but couldn’t find specific info on the sound once transmitted to a DAW. Are the algorithms so good that the sound representation is the same as from Rytm -> monitors. From all the overbridge presentations I didn’t get a clear idea if the actual software is going to convert the analog/digital output to 1s and 0s and recreate the depth and harmonics into a DAW. I don’t know how Cenk’s demos are recorded and if they’ve been additionally processed but if those drums sound the same from a DAW that will be a selling point for me. Thank you for the time.

nobody knows how good Overbridge sounds just yet. But what does playing live or not have anything to do with the fact that right now you send the Rytm into your DAW via the outputs. Sound quality will depend on your audio interface’s AD converters. Any modern interface will sound just about as good as what you hear from the speakers

I concur!

Once Overbridge is out, a comparison between analog outputs to DAW and USB to DAW is the first test I’m personally going to do.

Thank you for the feedback. I have a steinberg ur22 converter which is ok, but will switch to a more capable one if needed. So do you midi out the Rytm to the audio interface and then convert the midi data in the DAW to wav(or whatever audio) format? It just doesn’t sound very promising to me, hopefully I’d be surprised.

MIDI does not transmit audio.
With Overbridge, you would connect the Rytm to your computer via USB. The A/D conversion happens inside the Rytm, and then the audio is transmitted over the USB connection.
There is no public information yet about the quality of the Rytm’s conversion. The Rytm has individual outs to allow you to multitrack with an audio interface if you wish to do so.

what hooper said + when overbridge comes out USB will stream audio at 48kHz 24bit.

Aslong as your clocks/sampling rates are all set to the correct frequency all usb recordings in theory should have identical waveforms across all setups.

The way overbridge audio sounds coming out your speakers will depend on the D/A converters available on your interface or whatever your speakers are directly connected to, so comparing the DAW return track and the straight through audio from the machine/headphone output will yield differences.

Thank you.
