I was thinking so much about if it’s worth all the money, I might replace it by two less expensive devices, maybe MPC1000+TR8, MPC500+Roland Handsonic etc. Then I just set up a kit with nice internal synth machines, each layered with a sample from a different category (kick+ride, kick+snare, snare+clap, cowbell+rimshot), glued each pair with overdrive, put distortion and compression on top. whooooooooooah

what a raw, powerful sound.

although i don’t own an AR yet i had the pleasure of working with one recently and found it absolutely cracking, especially it’s BD, SD & CP. with a little internal overdrive, verb and compression it was absolutely smacking & monitor rattling. the weight of the BD really impressed me. keep in mind i’m very very picky with drums and own the original 606/808/909, MPC3000, SP1200, amongst a few other classics. AR definitely has the big analog drum mojo and lives up to the hype. I can only hope Elektron plan on expanding it’s current machines, the unit sure deserves it! hopefully mine in the near future

i am also very happy with it.

i love the sound, love the perf, the scenes, the kick, the snare (didn’t like it in the beginning), love the claps, the toms are massive… love the workflow.

only hh are a little limited, but that’s not a very big deal.

only person who doesn’t like this thing is my neighbour. But he even complains about my music when I am not at home. I don’t believe my wife creates problems, since she loves Nils Frahm and that kind of stuff.

i love the rytm it have replaced jomox 999 and tanzbar. i like it so much I have two of em for playing live. with samples and the analog machines I get huge variety from 606 to 909, even vermona drm type sounds…

Love the Rytm too. Absolutely fantastic!
I went from 100% software back to some Hardware…predominantly Elektron.

Just putting it out there - I’m a software sample library developer and I’m planning on releasing at least 2 RYTM sound packs…

One of my favorite Elektrons for sure. Especially now that I’ve invested some time into learning how to manage the compressor. I’m running the OT and A4 through the Rytm now and everything all of a sudden sounds amazing!

Good stuff.

Late last week I was in the market for some inspiration and looked at the Korg Electribe. After playing around with it for a minute, I came to the conclusion I have all I need with just the Rytm. It does everything the Electribe can do; and then some. Albeit you have to load your own chords into the Rytm.

Anyway, good stuff. Yes.

The Rytm sounds freakin awesome! It is powerful!

I love the sound of samples through the analog signal path… and the chromatic mode plus the scene and performance modes make it very flexible and expressive!

I’m liking it so much for various fx, bass, and lead sounds that I may get a second one. Gonna wait for Overbridge though…

I also recently started exploring the relationship between the Trig menu and the AMP hold and decay.

Basically, you can bring in long one shot synth samples and then sequence them it as if it was on the A4 or something. Essentially turning the AR into a synth (kind of)…Hold has to be set to Auto in order to use the note length in the Trig menu.

Weighty is definitely a very good way to describe the drum sounds.

The kicks have incredible weight without any filtering - very powerful raw OSCs.

The rim and snare and clap options sound very good either clean or dirty.

Toms are a bit intense, tuned to be a little bit too hefty and far too much bottom end.

Hats are passable - nothing incredible there, unless you pass them through tube, which is my favorite way to monitor analog hats, apart from pushing into tape.

Cymbals aren’t my cup of tea.

Samples through the analog circuits are very nice indeed and make me want to pick up a Prophet 2000.

Best of all, there is a sonic consistency and coherency in the unit as a whole which means that if you are running some drum sounds or FX via another unit or software, when you bring the RYTM voices in they sound as if they have all arrived together, adding a new dimension of sound.

Big thumbs up, even in its very rudimentary state.

Received Rytm yesterday and played with it for about an hour last night!

I really dig it, the sound is very good (rich and full) and it has a nice groove to it. There must be something about drum machines which just make them sound better than an Octatrack with sampled drums. (I may be imagining that though ;-)) The drums I did on the Octatrack sounded a bit lifeless.

I just started messing with some of the factory samples and would have to say having them is going to be the icing on the cake. Being soo tightly integrated with the analog synth voices, the groove potential is going to be wicked. Matched with the MIDI sequencing power of the Octatrack driving my Virus TI……OMG thats a bucket load of sonic power….!!!
