RYTM “play” doesn’t play

Hey, I hope someone can help me out here?
I’ve just bought a brand new RYTM mk2, my first Elektron device.
I unboxed it, powered it up and pressed play… and it doesn’t play. The pads all make appropriate sounds, and the light flashes across the 16 step buttons, but it won’t actually play a pattern on the first patch after powering on.
Is this normal? Is this the reputed Elektron workflow that I’ve heard so much about? Or is it broken?

Thank you for your help!

Couldn’t help laugh at this one

Does sound a bit odd - guessing you have nothing else plugged into it, just to eliminate any USB/MIDI weirdness?

Have you entered a sequence?

Manual pg 37

Checked mutes?

Manual pg 20

Trig settings?

Manual pg 42.

Yes. Maybe someone had a go at it beforehand, its a little less than new.

If all else fails, factory reset.

Fairly sure it has a default pattern/s of some kind that would play like all the other elektron boxes?

I have a MKI but didn’t have it from new.

But I’ll admit I missed the ‘‘the light flashes across the 16 step buttons’’

Is there anything on the pattern for any of the tracks when you hit the record button @Benedict_UK ? What happens when you add something?

I think there should be default stuff in the banks though if it’s brand new.

Thank you, I don’t think anything is muted because the pads all work fine and produce sound without issue.
The factory reset sounds like a good thing to try, I’ll investigate how to do that!

Check trigs arent set to zero on velocity.

tracks that are muted can still be triggered by the pads.

try a factory reset (with power OFF, hold down func, power it on and then select the trig for factory reset (trig 3?)
