I believe I asked this in a previous thread but did not receive a response. My elektron rytm is my first piece of elektron gear so I don’t really know what to expect as far as customer relations/updates/patches. Can anyone who is more familiar with elektron’s process fill me in? Should I expect (or just hope for) an updated OS on the rytm with bug fixes and new features? Or is what I see what I get for the life of the product? Not complaining. Simply curious. Thanks to anyone that can lend their experience/knowledge.
Still waiting on the Ring-Mod kick drum machine demonstrated at last year’s Musikmesse so I’m not sure what to tell you. I feel an update should have been released by now.
Yeah. I actually just read the other thread about ring mod BD. did sound wicked! But really all I’m looking for is some past experiences from previous elektron owners and/or people that know about previous practices by elektron when it comes to post-release software updates. Are they prevalent? Common? Always happen? How long, how big, what, when, why? Any info would be greatly appreciated =)
Generally Elektron has been consistent with their OS updates; however, with the development of Overbridge, it has sapped them of their resources. Until Overbridge is complete, I do not expect much in the way of OS updates besides small/quick bug fixes.
They stated on there facebook account the ring mod Drum isn’t ready and needs a polish but isn’t forgotten, that’s enough for me… Over bridge has taken most if not all of there resources but I don’t think they ever said it wouldn’t… Jus some people don’t want/need OB.
I can understand It’s an uncomfortable trade off for some if there’s bugs that are hindering your work that haven’t been ironed out… Guess I’m a lucky one that hasn’t found any bugs that kill my workflow on AR or RYTM.
Tho admittedly I’m not one of these power users that squeeze every bit of juice from the OS!! I jus use what I need.
I think the futures bright Tho we jus don’t know how much powers in there and the A4 received a HUGE update all at once (which people where saying was overdue) I was hoping for poly mode then (and I got it) Id like the RYTM to sample but I doubt that’s happening as it seems the octa is also here to stay… tho who knows what unimaginable things OB could introduce.
I jus try to enjoy what they do now rather than worry about what they can’t and surprise myself how much I can get from RYTM alone, often finding adding other boxes is overkill !! Which I guess is no bad thing…
Have a great day x
enough for me if they have a good memory
another freakin’ year and we haven’t seen any new machines… your marketing gurus believe updates are overrated, better push new products? for my part I would have owned the trinity by now if AR had been cherished properly. don’t want to waste more time reading about updates that never sail off.
To be honest, OB has been a real drag. It literally took a year out of our lives and we have more or less a plug-in style visual display for our hardware that we can use with our laptops. Didn’t most of us get into hardware to avoid using computers? I know I did. Otherwise why don’t we just do it all in Abelton? I have a “no computers” rule when I write and perforn. The computer is just a recorder and OB isn’t even the best for that. It just bugs me. I still don’t do shows with the Rytm because they never fixed the direct jump bug. Never got the ring mod kick drum. Never fixed the pitch bug on the kick drum. Unless you use overbridge, samples are still a chore… I still love my elektron gear but I’m disappointed at the support and customer service in 2015. Hope 2016 they get back to what made them great in the first place. Hardware.
erm, pitch bug on the kickdrum? What is that?
personally those “well known shortcomings” are pretty minor considering what already works, and after the upcoming sequencer update, even less so… worked ok on stage so far (knocks on wood)
I’m not sure, but possibly this one:

Well, that thread is just talking about difficulties in getting the analog engines to track pitch accurately. Not exactly sure if I’d consider that one a bug… but then again I love a touch of atonality in music
Yes if you really need in-tune sub sounds the tom voices are better suited. Otherwise the kick is fine. It’s great. Still I’d love for that direct jump bug to be gone. It kills me whenever it interrupts my jamming. I’ve owned many modern drum machines in the last 10 years and it is my favorite by far. It just needs a little bit more.
Getting back to the original intention of this thread… A lot of us dont have much use for OB and are bummed it’s development has almost all but halted the further developing of our beloved hardware synths. Thankfully there are 3rd party people out there making soundpacks, cool mounting options, and stuff like that. That cool multi-use cable-thing for the AR,A4,OT is my favorite new elektron product. I’m going to buy a bunch of them.
JJOS is the perfect example of an OS improvement for mpc users, considering the power of Rytm i want to believe that there is much to hope for new cool features like those in Tempest in the thread below
(RYTM vs TEMPEST - killer feature? )
