Rytm MK2 + OB2 -> Triggering patterns

OK, so I have the OB2 public beta running and the Rytm MK2 plugin working in Live 10. So far so good… but, I have no idea how to trigger different patterns. I like to create my patterns directly on the Rytm, but I’d like to trigger them in Live 10 when I work on my arrangements. Any idea how this works with OB2?

Thanks!

See Pg. 33 in the Overbridge 2 manual: https://eu5.dh-cdn.net/uploads/db8181/original/3X/d/d/dde43283aeae4ecfefb2f698fdec5b5024c983af.pdf

10.2PATTERN CHANGE
You can send MIDI notes to the plugin on Channel 16 to request pattern changes on the Elektron device.
Like SONG POSITION sync, this works in a best effort manner.

Thanks, but that does not seem to work. :frowning:

I have one track in Live with the Rytm plugin. Then on a second (MIDI) track I have set the MIDI output to the Rytm track & channel 16. The clips on track 2 do nothing more than program changes, but these have no effect, the pattern running on the Rytm does not change. The Rytm plugin is set to receive clock+transport.

Clock + transport is not enough (on the device itself - don’t know about the plugin). Make sure you turn on PRG CH RECEIVE., too (otherwise it ignores program change messages).

Another pitfall: Master change length in the (advanced) scale menu should not be INF.

(search the manual for “PRG CH RECEIVE” and “master change length” for details)

These settings are correct here, so that’s not it. :frowning:

Hmmmm …

I’m not sure if it relevant with OB2, but with normal a MIDI connection you need to configure also the channel where you want to receive program change messages (MIDI->Channels->PROGRAM CHANGE IN CHANNEL).

The OB2 manual says it receives programm changes on channel 16. This is where I send it to, see this screenshot:

Well, I know what is written in the manual, but it wouldn’t hurt to check the setting on the Rytm, too. There can always be a bug or something …

A last thing I can think of: What program change have you configured in the clip settings? Make sure there is no bank/subbank selected, but only a Program (Pgm XY).

Yup, see screenshot, only PGM is set, not BANK or SUB. All settings on the Rytm itself are as they are supposed and suggested in the manual.

I just installed the OB2 beta version 2.0.14.1, still no dice. :frowning:

Sorry. Wasn’t able to see it, because Elektronauts is timing out quite heavily due to the Digitone News.

So far everything looks exactly as it should be. Quite strange …

I haven’t tried it, but the manual says it will respond to “midi notes” to change patterns, not program change messages… Seems like PC’s would work by sending to the PC receive channel, but again I haven’t tried…

OK, that was it. What a weird implementation. So, here goes:
C -2 (essentially the lowest note I can set in Ableton Live’s sequencer) relates to Pattern A-1. C# -2 is Pattern A-2 and so on. Program change messages are not needed, all that’s needed is sending the notes to MIDI Channel 16 of the OB2 plugin.

Hope that helps others, too. And it would be clever for the Elektron folks to update the OB2 manual accordingly.
