RYTM lacks modulation and voice routing options

Although I love the RYTM, I feel it needs more than anything the ability to route tracks into one another like the A4 can. It’d really open up possibilities to stack voices on one another, combine synth engines, and use 2 filters on one sound.

Also, it’d be nice to have more LFOs, are at least the ability to route them to multiple destinations.

Agreed. It also lacks a few extra synthesis parameters (balance between osc & transient for classic kick, ANYTHING for the cymbals) and more machines for everything aside from kick/snare.

I’m not a fan of the filter’s sound, either - another topology or 2nd one would be nice, but maybe that’s beyond the scope of this topic.

It’s one of my favorite pieces of gear in a long time and I feel like Elektron really nailed it for an addictive piece of kit that I can’t take my hands off of… but it’s missing all the little extras like the other machines have.

We’ll see if it’s supposed to be a “limitations breed creativity” machine or they’re just developing it over time.

IMO the #1 thing it needs = more LFOs

amazing how limiting just one can be (in regards to a drum machine)

with my old drum machine I used the OT to sequence it so I had 3 LFOs to use with midi CC

If you could print the lfo into trigs, that would free the lfo for another use.

I have heard that at the end of this year the A Rytm will have a lot more synthesis methods and a lot more other functions too. So dont worry.
It will evolve.

Remember that parameter slides are an advanced modulation system, that can create the illusion that you’re using many LFO’s on one sound. Elektron encourages you to think sideways, and this is a perfect example of this way of doing things.

Sure, it is not the exact same as an LFO, and I agree that one LFO per sound is weak and unfortunate, but between live parameter lock recording and parameter slides, you can still get dynamic and evolving sequences.

Also, I think there really ought to be more envelope shapes. Especially, when you consider all the envelope shapes the A4 offers. I’m a bit surprised by the lack of envelopes shapes, as well as how much I don’t like the envelope there is. I feel like it doesn’t do much.

It’d be great to be able to control an envelope for the sample separately from one that shapes the analog sound engine too.

thinking sideways is always rewarded with elektron boxes.

so i guess you can’t assign one track’s LFO to another track as on the Machinedrum? too bad.

anyway, in spite of all the complaints each box has elicited, there always seems to be something unexpected that enchants people anyway. it’s like elektron consciously avoids certain expected things so you will have to think creatively to create the sound you hear, and in doing so, creates a firm possibility for happy accidents.

I don’t find the number of LFOs to be a problem at all, since you can automate so many parameters in the sequencer anyway. The current state of the envelopes I find much harder to deal with, hoping the envs will get some extra love as AR matures.
