Running Digitone back into itself - audio routing

I’m looking to start recording stuff from the digitone into my computer via USB.

I usually run the digitone through a few external effect pedals which i’d ideally like to use as well.

Is it possible to run the digitone through the effects and back into itself via the audio inputs and then into the computer via usb?

Im having a little trouble with the audio routing, I can set it up although its not a complete wet signal and is prone to feedback.

Would be great if possible, cheers

I don’t think it’s possible without creating feedback unfortunately, although I could be wrong. You don’t happen to have another Elektron device kicking around to use the inputs of by any chance?

I think it might be ok if you can unassign the DN Inputs from being sent to the external outputs?
I feel like that’s possble in one of the menus.

if you are talking digitone 1 , then overbridge routing options might be good to look at … if you can remove external in from the main out… and record that in your daw / standalone app.

personally … id just use DAW fx and do it all digitally… either overbridge or class compliant usb audio.

Have an octatrack although it has no overbridge/interface unfortunately… Ive got mixer which would solve it all but running on low desk space at the mo and would be convenient just to hook up the digitone via a usb cable.

Yeah I have a feeling it is and I’m just missing something in the audio routing, will have a play about

Cheers, will have a play around in overbridge :+1:

By default the external input is disabled in the mixer and not routed to main and you can set USB OUT to EXT in the audio routing menu.

Cheers, yeah i’ve set this up :+1:

Made a bit of progress, in overbridge your able to turn on and off the monitor for each individual track and input. It’s possible to recieve and record the wet signal from the effects chain although the feedback is very sensitive so only achieved at a low volume.

Haven’t been able to test it out in ableton but assume it will be the same deal. I think the audio has to be processed internaly and I don’t think your able to mute the tracks while still being able to send audio out unless i’m missing something.

Think i’ve sussed it. Having the input levels at 0 eliminates all feedback and setting the master volume to max matches the inernal volume. Not sure if there’s something else I did but it seems to be working fine now

Hi glad it worked. I am interested in doing this as well. Could you please explain in more detail how you managed to make it to work? Thanks!

Yeah no probs!

  • Main outs running into external effects chain
  • External effects chain running into DN inputs
  • Audio routing - int to main - on
  • Left and right inputs in the internal mixer set to 0 (for no feedback, can be adjuted higher but quite sensitive)
  • Connect to overbridge
  • In overbridge, open the “digitone audio capture” (tape icon near the top, next to the keyboard icon)
  • Turn off monitor and capture for the main and individual tracks
  • Enable monitor for the inputs and capture if you want to directly record from there
  • I find that having the master volume level at max is close to the main internal volume. One thing to note is that the audio running through the effects will be loud. The saturator on my deco gets blown out

I think that’s it. Feel like i’m missing something and there’s another way around it still but this seems to work, although I haven’t had chance to try it with ableton yet as I don’t have it installed anymore. Let me know how you get on with it and If someone could test to see if theyr’e able to record the line ins into ableton that would be appreciated!

Thanks so much for the detailed info. Really appreciate it! Will try it with ableton as soon as I can. All the best!

Thanks for this. I got this to work with my digitakt ii with overbridge standalone no problem. As far as I know there’s not a straightforward way to route audio from a standalone app into your daw, and the overbridge plugin version doesn’t have the same audio capture button (tape icon) as the standalone option does. So I’m lost there, but I’m stoked this works

That’s great you got it working, yeah I noticed that too in another DAW that the tape icon is missing. Seems the only option would be to record in the audio capture window and then transfer that file into the DAW. Would require some trimming and beat matching to get things in sync though
