Novation Launchcontrol XL -> OT MIDI IN -> OT MIDI OUT -> DIGITAKT MIDI IN -> DIGITAKT MIDI THROUGH -> Other Devices
What I want to do is, keep OT as the brain, but also route MIDI CC messages from LaunchControl to DT. So far I couldn’t achieve this, MIDI CC messages are not being routed to DT.
Is there a way to make OT act as a brain and also pass down the MIDI CC messages?
If not, I will have to use DT as the brain, or buy a MIDI merge box
I know that Auto Channel is for controlling the currently active track, but haven’t used it yet, also have no idea how it works on OT.
I’m still a newbie when it comes to OT, so I’m not exactly sure how to setup the OT the way you describe it. So if you could tell it like I’m a total idiot, I would appreciate that
To pass thru midi messages from LC XL (OT midi in) to OT midi out, you need a midi track set to the same channel as DT Auto Channel, different from channels 1-8.
In OT midi mode :
Midi track channel can be set in MIDI NOTE SETUP (SRC/NOTE secondary page)
Validate value with yes
Choose OT Auto Channel on the LC XL : (11 by default)
DT Auto Channel can be set in MIDI CONFIG > CHANNELS
Let me know which points we’d need to be elaborate on.
Thanks for explaining this further! I got it working, but it only works for the currently selected MIDI Track of OT.
I guess that’s the purpose of auto-channel anyways, right? What I need instead is to be able to control all 8 channels without choosing a MIDI track on OT.
I’m fine with using all the OT MIDI tracks for this purpose. I’ve tried that but it didn’t work.
For example, I set an LC XL fader to send to MIDI channel 6, OT MIDI track 6 to channel 6, DT listens on channel 6, but DT doesn’t receive the CC messages on channel 6. It only worked with the auto-channel as I mentioned above.
question: if LaunchControl has only USB, how do you transform USB midi protocol to MIDI DIN into Octatrack? Which device do you use in between? Cause the USB midi will only work directly connected to devices that have USB midi host service implemented in their firmware. In case the OT MK2 has this feature that would be something new to learn to me i missed out maybe… Still happy smashing midi din with my OT MK1 and faderfox pc12 (monster that does merge, route, split, clock-blocking) which you remind me how i was struggling with midi before back in the days as well.
