Roto Control (MIDI controller by Melbourne Instruments)

V.2.0 is feeling pretty tight for me, coming from the Bitwig beta version.
Things seem well thought out, my touch sensitivity issues are pretty much resolved, screen updates seem smoother now…
Bitwig doesn’t 100% every time register touch release when touch recording automation for me, but it is mostly spot on now. No other touch issues at all.
Feeling pretty good about early adopting the Roto as my primary controller of choice.
A few things that could be done yet to fully “bling” it up, will be sending some suggestions in, but yea, this is a solid piece of kit!

Can anyone using Live and Roto report if everything function well?

  • I guess it’s stored in the RC as other “learn” devices ?
Using automapped rack/macros won’t impact internal memory.

  • is the total limit still 64 ? (I need waaaaaaaay more)
This is currently correct, although you can import/export more!

  • Is it linked to the name of the Rack (as, the name on the device title bar in Live ?)
Yes, giving racks unique names is essential as Roto looks for the name.

Thanks.

The 64 limit is a big issue to me.
In my case, I use the Roto Control mostly with a custom M4L device. Since I want to customize the knobs + names of this device for each Live Set, the only way I can achieve it is to give the device its own unique name for each Live Set. So I reach the limit very fast.
At least having a separate 64 memory for Stock Plugins and another one for M4L would be ok.

With the MIDI note send enabled from buttons, this just became the best OT controller ever. Have one page set up with mutes and levels per track and one for combo rec on each channel (with record setup TRIG parameter set to HOLD across the board). Absolute beast and so many possibilities.

The midi note send means you can also use it to mute/solo tracks on the M8, or as a midi controller for the K-Mix

Does anyone know how to set up a knob as a click per step rotary just the same as the “endless encoder” in demo mode? Can’t find the combo of settings that would do this.

Yeah it would be nice to have some clicky rotary knobs as a option, since they already exist in demo mode.
I kinda like the feeling of them when twisting the knob
@Honeysmack is this possible to implement, and not just be in demo mode?
And maybe to edit stepping strength as well, like you did for knob touch sensitivity, would love to have option between 3 “strength”/resistance types

I might misunderstand your question, but you can add click steps just by putting a number in the “STEPS” box, then add the names for each step on the right.

Try the shop demo mode and look at the endless encoder example.

I am missing that one as well for parameters with more than ~ 16 options, to avoid that the step distance gets too small

So today I updated to v2.0.0 and track selection in Ableton Live 12 (by touching the knob) does not work anymore.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Just got the Roto Control, is great! A few suggestions on my part regarding Ableton:

  1. Would be great to edit settings on the MIX and TRANSPORT sections. For example be able to make the dent on 0db for volume, or to add another buttons for record session, tempo, etc…
  2. Also great to add ascii symbols as text (arrows, bullets, geometric figures…)
  3. Change the color of knobs from one color on 0 to gradient to another different color on 127

It works as it was, maybe check sensitivity option, and as usual plug it into power outlet

Tried several options with power, sensitivity settings etc. but no luck with that.

What made a difference though: I deleted the ROTO_CONTROL folder in “Remote Scripts” and reselected the “User Library” again with Roto Control ( FileSelect Ableton Live User Library ). A new version of the script was installed and now it works as expected again.

The roto control is looking pretty enticing now that I’m using Ableton…

Curious if it has something similar to Torso’s temp function- instantly recall of plugin parameters from a previously saved state? If so, then that might just push me over the edge towards a purchase.

I did sent in a FR for sending MIDI snapshots, or “scenes”. Maybe if more people chime in…

i’ve also requested snapshots. there’s currently no way to save or recall states.
