I used to do this when my job was on the other part of the city. Now that I am home office i am stuck in my head 24/7. Still need to figure out how to go about it, because all the things i love to do are in front of me all the time, same as the things i am noticing i don’t like.
Because I don’t to detract from the thread, I’ll keep this general and brief. You may have already figured out the same, but as I’ve been doing that for 6 years, but kinda hybrid now, I can still share some things that work.
Create limitations early. This is really developing work routines, but having them will help you not dislike the space you’ve curated and help you not dislike all the things you love in front of you.
Even if I have down-time, I won’t touch anything music so that it remains something to look forward to. I even listen to music on crappy mobile device speakers so I still look forward to the real thing later. It’s fairly simple but its helped me and I wish I started out that way.
Great job man, I’ll be two years sober come Christmas, never thought I’d make it that far without a drink but here we are, the longer you do it the easier it gets… kudos ![]()

Feeling this as well. It’s like I’m checking activity here simply out of routine sometimes, and I haven’ t contributed much lately. It feels like I need a break, at least for a while. So, see ya in a while I guess ![]()
Sorry to see that checking in here can be overload or compulsory, but I get it. Just wish it wasn’t that way.
Even though I’m not posting as much I’m still reading because it’s a bit of a safe spot or refuge. I like seeing what others are getting, listening to the current sounds thread and new releases thread.
My missus is attempting to go on long term disability for overdue care and it’s a nightmare. Nothing is easy and it seems intentionally not easy. She’s currently in financial limbo on unpaid leave, while paying $1600 to keep her insurance for the month while following up with all the doctors and paperwork needed just for the review.
Im there every step of the way. My work has asked us to come in a couple days of the week for no other reason to be there. They even celebrated going “back to the office” although I haven’t worked in an office setting like this since 2006. The work has become a shit show as they try to add 4I slop to help, but it’s a mess and they don’t even understand why it’s a mess. I could tell them, but not sure they want to hear it.
Trying to keep up with meditating to stay sane. I’m on gummies, super small amounts does the trick for sleeping. I’m dumber than normal on these but the sleep is super helpful.
Our furry ones are taking turns being sick. Ziggy is back to normal, but now Marley is sick and he has a habit of not drinking enough water so we’re looking to be creative this time with hope that it helps.
Quick update, Marley is back to normal. He’s the one we usually bring in for antibiotics so I couldn’t be happier to see the quick recovery! ![]()
A short update: took a contract job to have some more time to think about the future. I think I am seeing an opportunity to build something on my own after the gig is done…
Yeah, I feel really shabby working from home and then later going back to the same place just to pass the time…
I am back into running every few days and that really helps. It’s much easier to just sit around afterwards and do nothing special. Even scrolling through the internet has a different vibe because you can actually read something interesting.
I also bough an electric bass about a year ago - and an online course from https://www.bassbuzz.com/ The course is really aimed at beginners and certainly not overwhelming! Most lessons are just 10-15 minutes, so it’s really easy to fit into a busy schedule. I am very slow at it but it feels really good to see the progress and actually doing one lesson instead of doomscrolling ![]()
For me it’s very important that the tasks are very simple to start and don’t take ages to finish.
Well back a year and a half i was riding my back to and back from work every day, 25km plus 3 to 4 times gym. I was on top of my shape and health. Then i had heart issues, and needed to stop it for some time, and right after i lost my job, so i lost even that daily routine i had. And i love routines. It help me thinking of things and coming up with ideas, while doing other tasks like sport mechanically.
doing better my ankle fracture from June that was broke into 5 places is now almost healed! It ruined my summer but now getting slowly back into the swing of life again. I have been digging into my new Waldorf M 16 and OP XY combo and love it. Instant cyberpunk vibes. When I use the Waldorf M with LXR02 and Elektron Rytm MK2 it gets serious mojo. I was impressed with the various presets as well.
I quit online dating today. Hopefully forever.
Still the idea of living and growing old without a partner scares the shit out of me. And getting in contact in real life isn’t getting easier these days where everyone is mostly shutting themselves off and constantly stares at tiny screens.
I know it will feel empty for a while now. I also know that this will pass, but finding back to oneself surely takes time.
Wish me good luck to stay strong, please.
Go to a language school evening sessions. Possibly to countrys where you like to travel to anyway.
It will get better! I’ve been there a few times
But, yeah, it is not easy. During one of those phases I really grew into ambient music. I used to lie down on my couch almost every evening, headphones on and some Brian Eno playing. That was my form of mediation, didn’t realize it back then. Just half an hour or so thinking about nothing, listening to the sounds, anticipating nothing, just being there.
We really want to do something about our situation in those times, make emotions go away but there is no need to rush things.
Don’t know if it helps, but in my country (UK) there is an organisation called the Ramblers who organises social walking groups. Our own group had at least 10 weddings out of it, including my own. The groups are guaranteed to contain sociable people, who like to get outdoors.
don’t know if you have that kind of club around you, but worth looking.
Online data is mostly shite.
Can confirm. A few friends of mine got married after meeting on urban exploration hikes.
I think it’s because they attract a certain kind of curious but easy-going personality.
