There’s always some delay however you trigger a thing to start playing. Even if you’re just trying to hit “start” with your finger at the right time, you may find you’re too slow and it starts playing late. A thing you might try is to anticipate it a bit and press “start” a bit early.

Same thing if you’re triggering the start via MIDI (with MTC or transport or something). You might find that by the time the MIDI gets there and the device starts playing it’s a little late. So you need to anticipate it a bit by sending the MIDI early (or starting everything else a little later). That’s what the latency compensation is for. It lets you tell some things to start early and some to start late so that they all end up starting at the same time.

Though honestly, what I do 99% of the time is just record everything completely out of time and then nudge it into alignment once it’s all in the DAW. If milliseconds really matter to your music, trying to get more than two or three things to play in perfect sync with one another is usually more pain than its worth, IMHO.

thanks for the insight everyone, lately i have been nudghing and aligning the transients so that it is in sync, but i did not know i still have to compensate for the delay. here’s a rough demo of some UKG drums i produced with the TR1k and a bassline from an access virus. i’m hoping this sounds in sync.

There’s no magical “sync issues” that only some people hear and you have to be careful to correct for. If sounds happen when you want them, you’re in sync. If not, you have to move them around until they’re where you want them.

You can do this by lining them up in a DAW, or adjusting for latency when recording, or a bunch of other stuff. But you get to decide when it’s right. It’s your music and whole careers have been made off beats that most thought were out of time until they got used to it. If it sounds good, it is good.

I personally found this guide to be useful about a year ago. To my knowledge the same principles would apply if you’re using a different DAW.

Anybody know why the SSL 4000 channel comp max’s at -20db , but the tr1k emulation max’s at -60db.
I’m assuming the tr1k is just showing dbu rather than dbfs , which would still be around -38dbfs

Does anyone else get a weird hum in the left channel when using the new SP-303 vinyl sim effect? I only get this hum on that effect alone, no other effects … it sort of sounds like 60hz hum, not sure why roland would have included it.

have you got it back - do the switches look the same?
can you still feel the texture of the text / printing on the surface of the switches (which I can on mine) or are they printed from underneath?

huh, that’s weird! i can’t see any reason why a digital effect would introduce a hum … maybe i should re-install the firmware.

Yes I’ve received it back, to me they feel and look the same, I will double check !

Did they include a job sheet or anything to show what work was done, to confirm all buttons were replaced? I’ve not heard anything from them yet on my repair.

Yes an email service report,
They confirmed they replaced all of them except one, the HT (long waiting time).
When I said they looked the same as previous one, of course the 3 one which were worn look perfect now😊 as they are new

That’s good that you know, so if you get issues with the HT button do you know if they’ll replace it out of warranty period?

My assumption is Yes if it ever happens (with the service report)

Re: resampling - only just exploring it now, does anyone know what’s going on with the recorded level, I’m always ending up with a file that is quieter?

To explain process - I have a sound on HT - recording into RS - tried recording the INPUT set to HT and also to MIX OUT - but both result in a quieter recording. Normalising - seems to distort the recording somehow?

HT currently has track level set to +6db and amp level set to +6db - but even with the same values set on the channel being recorded into (RS) the playback level isn’t matched.

And in the sample editor, visible immediately after recording the sample, the playback is quieter compared to the HT track.

Any ideas here? Thanks

Increase pattern gain and kit gain by +6db. It will still sound quiet when previewing the sample, but it won’t need normalising when assigning to a track (will be same volume as recording source track).

should i be increasing pattern and kit gain by +6db for every kit/pattern i have? Is that a good workflow or a sort of case by case basis?

i didnt find a big difference with it tbh so i sent it back

You can do that, but they increased the AMP gain as well. You may want to do that becuase increasing pattern and kit gain also increases the analog gain which can be noisy.

What I do is gain stage according the the sample meter. Trying to get everything bouncing under -6db.
