I don’t need the benefit of balanced connections explained to me. I also prefer them. The joke was simply about after-the-fact hair-splitting. This was in the spec sheet from the beginning, no?
The good news is that everyone will get another crack at it when Roland releases the TR-1000x or TR-1001 or whatever in 3 years which addresses this issue, the poorly-painted buttons, etc. Then, we’ll have the ultimate drum machine…right? No, then it will be that the screen is too small and it doesn’t come in black.
Yup- and I don’t think it stopped anyone buying it (unlike the latency issues) but still reasonable to discuss why they put it on the TR-8S and not the TR-1000 I think. As you say, it is what it is and unlike may other wish list items it cant be changed with a software update (Even Elektron couldn’t pull that one off!)
I’m not an engineer, nor do I have problems with my unit (now that all my cables are plugged all the way in). That said, does anyone think that maybe the outputs are unbalanced because of the analog circuits on board? Like, maybe having the original 808/909 sounds work depended on an unbalanced output for some reason. OR they couldn’t be made balanced without adding a bunch of components to every voice or something. Just a guess, because otherwise I agree I don’t see how the TR8S gets balanced outs and the TR1K doesn’t.
My late friend Paco had shared your music with me about a decade ago. Paco had excellent taste… and was very talented himself!!
It is surreal to see you on here!! I assumed you were… you… but, you could have just been a Chapelier Fou fan!!
You are extremely talented and have a great vision!! FANTASTIQUE!!! I could imagine your work in films from David Lynch, Tim Burton, Derrick Jarman, Robert Eggers, and Werner Herzog!!
It was great connecting with you!!
Cheers from Philadelphia PA, in the nightmare that can only be, the United Snakes!
Anyone who (like me) would have wished that the Analog bus and its output were removable from the Master/Main bus so this juicy bus could be used independently for summing/proccesing multiple internal tracks?
NB: unfortunately individual instruments outputs only accept a single track, so summing/grouping from there is impossible.
I patch the individual outs on my mixing desk and than can bus or send what i want to analog outs. This way you can also build amazing effect chains. Like Track Filter/EQ-> Track Compressor->Track FX (like Bitcrusher)->Global Delay->Global Reverb->Master FX (like Chorus)->Analog Filter->Analog Drive.
But yeah your suggestion would be even more flexible. Maybe with a future update possible !
I totally agree with the benefit of the indivual out processing! The thing is that I am saying that because my current Midas Venice F24 is maxe out with other synths/samplers, where I would love to have the chance to process the individual outs…maybe I need the F32
Maybe a patchbay workflow helps. It was confusing for me first. But thinking it thorugh, documenting and labeling all helped. Its super cool workflow now !
Normalization for the most used things and than for special cases like this you patch some cables.
is there any guides on how to connect the machine to your daw? I have it hooked up via the usb-c cable but not getting any sounds and am unable to record.
no, ableton on windows. i think it may be a driver issue unrelated to the device i’m not sure. it works with my rytm via usb audio but can’t get any sound when selecting tr1k out as my sound driver. Can’t set up individual track recording neither.
Has anyone experienced issues with sample import via the app after updating to 1.16 ?
I had absolutely zero issues importing samples in bulk (48/16) previously (v1.14).
Today, after updating, if I attempt to repeat the same procedure (new category, 8 char long, etc) it does its thing and appears to import as per usual, but then the folder is empty when browsing on the unit.
Weird…
Update
This also occurs when attempting to import a single sample via the external usb. It also doesn’t seem to matter if I reset the unit after import.
