I’m not buying the “This is a drum machine, not a groove box” argument as an excuse for the audio gap.
I have 15 in each when looking for ALL sounds, which I agree isn’t much, but don’t forget that they want to sell us expansions ![]()
What about being able to load instruments into memory (Elektron soundpool style). Say you have 500 instruments loaded for a live set.
Wouldn’t a transition be seamless in this case? All instruments are already in memory as opposed to having to load the next kit/instruments into memory on pattern change.
Yikes, this does a great job emphasising the issue. Without the gap it sounds absolutely beast though. Mine hopefully arrives Monday and wonder how noticeable it’ll be with the kind of stuff I make ![]()
Watch this (audio gap issue)
I can’t believe what I’m seeing here. Dustin created a song with different pattern/kits. Exactly at the transitions the video gets cut. I mean, this is not a coincidence.
What do you see happening here?
anyone tried syncing it externally? Hows the latency and jitter?
I saw an announcement from Roland that worried me a bit.
out of curiosity - Roland writes:
“Track Sync (found in Project Settings): switches between “All Tracks” and “Layered Gens”. AlI Tracks is the tightness internal timing, though has the most latency when externally clocked. Layered Gens loosens the internal track timing a bit (while keeping the Layer timing tight) with the benefit of reducing the external latency substantially.”
Thats the opposite what you are writing!?
Just for balance, day 2 with my machine, I absolutely love it- for me I have found no downsides for studio use (so far) and keep finding cool new features and workflows- its very fast to get interesting and great sounding beats down- that what I wanted. It goes well outside the dance/techno stuff, I am more interested in ambient/downbeat electronica stuff and with the layers, fx and so many generators this is the perfect tool.
I honestly think I prefer the workflow on the TR over my current Elektron stuff (Syntakt and Digitone II) - maybe its just honeymoon period or that there are so many more direct controls…but right now it seems faster and more direct to me- the Morph fader is a massive addition and does take it into OT territory.
It is to me the best sounding drum machine I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot!) I am so glad to own this and look forward to a long and happy relationship ![]()
yeah lets see what they answer! if not changable by design, what would the most plausible workaround be? and just to be clear, elektron machines don’t need any time to load different patterns+diferent kit?
I cant really comment much on the playing live thing as a studio guy, but this performance seemed superb to me…I would be pretty happy if I could do that live ![]()
It’s a great demo, wish there was more info about the setup as it looks like all the individual outs are being used?
love it… what a sound! great performance.
Yeah, very nice performance.
And though he was actually working the knobs quit a lot, it didn´t look like he was burning his fingers like so many of the modern DJ do.
Just watched it, looks prerecorded, but i might be wrong. Still amazing performance
exactly… a kit is just referencing different instruments in memory. Near instant transition.
yeah i’m up for great performances, but creative videos with loads of cuts and close ups on face detract from what i want to see, hands on performance start to end.
and is this a hardware thing? the sound pool thing (a buffer)?
Gonna guess comped from live takes then mixed and mastered. A lot of the of the moves correspond in a way that they wouldn’t if it was just miming. Edit: actually more likely a single take the more I think about it.
I get why they’d want to do it this way for a demo, but for me would probably be even more exciting if they’d just taken a raw stereo recording - little mistakes and imperfections are a lot of what makes live special, can’t wait till full club sets on this start showing up. Although it’s also possible they did that and it just sounds that good / he is that good.
I suppose it’s more like memory architecture… [not an expert]
lets hope for improvement software/firmware wise!
