Yes it seems variable. Some people experience a sync bug with the TR-8S which seems never to be fixed - at least so far. I don’t use that feature on mine luckily!
Here back to the SP, of yeah

Good old Roland delivering the fixes.
I wonder if that’s it or there will be a version 5 next year… or new machine. (Probably the latter)
There are a few things left I’d like so just dreaming here, but don’t think they’re unreasonable:
Global settings storable presets, but this could be seen as per back up, per project would be nice at least.
Midi CC out for CTRLs (so much potential for cc learning processes and controlling external gear/visuals etc)
Moar FX of course.
Everything else (pitch range, fx per pattern, editing stuff etc) are navigable limitations I can live with.
They moved on from version 404 so they might be cooking up another update!
Can I assume along with bug fixes that V405 addresses the MFX page disappearing act?
So weird. I’m getting the NO UPDATER message on the SP-404 Mk2 when I hold shift down and power the unit on (with the SD card installed).
I’ve even reformatted the SD card successfully (to confirm that yes, the SD card is good). And then went back to my computer and copied the new 4.05 firmware files to the root of the card again. Rise. Repeat. No love.
idiot here, but its been a while resampling. But if I have a kick, snare and then apply fx and want to resample, is there a way to just resample so its the same length?. Not sure as it’s been a minute
Have you extracted the files, and they are not in a folder but root of the sd card?
Yes. As I stated, they’re at the root of the SD card. And not in the folder that was created when I downloaded the files online.
A freshly formatted SD card I might add.
What size SD card? If I remember correctly, when they started allowing cards larger than 32gb, they did state that firmware updates would still need to be done on 32gb SDHC cards or smaller. Unless that has changed since then.
The card has to be 32GB or smaller for updates.
Edit: @HoldMyBeer beat me to it!
The card is 32GB. And it was used successfully to install the current firmware 4.04
And again, I was able to successfully re-format the card again on the SP.

the 2 files should be on the root of the sd card, just managed to do it just now.
At this point I’ve mentioned maybe three times already that they ARE at the root of a freshly re-formatted card
Do you have another card to try?
I’ll look for one. And if that doesn’t work I guess I’ll try the nuclear option.
But… if I’m able to format the card successfully on 4.04 it should work, right?
Hypothetically yes, when did you format on the SP?
I have a super old 4GB SD that I only use for 404 updates. Nice to have that option.
It’s from an old digital camera. Formatted and wiped out all those stupid baby pictures!
Several times this morning
Stupid question but you formatted then put the update files on root of the card correct?
Previously on Elektonauts…. 🥲
