Move and 404 for the live show definitely got my attention as well.
I’ve had an SP-404MKII for some months now, and recently invested in a MicroFreak to pair up with it. Great little combo, a lot of power in a small footprint!
But I’m wondering, since they both use those stereo mini jacks for MIDI, would it be safe to leave out the MIDI DIN adapters that came with the MicroFreak, and just connect them directly using the stereo mini cables instead?
I read somewhere that there’s two types of these cables, so although they share the same stereo mini connection type, it’s no guarantee that they’ll work.
Great combo. Connecting them in this way didn’t work for me but let me know if you find a way. MF also takes a different Midi type than most of my other gear.
These are cables you can use with Type A on the other end to use with SP (Elijah’s option below is better for that imo) or to connect your MF to most other 5 pin controllers.
The SP uses TRS MIDI Type A, while the MF uses Type B, so if you’re connecting them directly with a 3.5mm cable, you’ll need a converter like this :
(The converter simply swaps the stereo L/R connections.)
Check out this video @MichaalHell posted in another thread if you want to see a really great and simple illustration of the art of sampling.
Chopping records in this way (wav with frequency seperated by colors) is made very easy by the new SP x Serato update. Cheatcode. I have a station in a corner of my home workspace dedicated to it now called the Chop Lab.
Or get an USB-hub, connect them all to an iPad and sample everything while using MIDI over USB in AUM. Forget the Apple thingy and get this one: Amazon.de
Works beautifully.
Thanks for the battery answers @thoughtstarZ @SPisfunbutalsodifficult @Accumulate @Mxr @Kegeratorz
Got some 2800mAh’s on the way
Thanks for the replies regards the MIDi.
Since it’s just a switched cable polarity, I’d be better off making my own cables by soldering them in a crossed-over fashion. That would avoid the need for any form of adapter, which is just as well really since I hate adapters and dongles.
