Roland SP-404 Mk2 (Part 1)

might be a bug.

ENTER + BUS FX turns BUS 3/4 ON/OFF

I’d expect it to remain off until next time i ENTER + BUS FX.

Currently opening INPUT FX Setting turns BUS 3/4 on again.

Mine does the same but i assumed that its because i have it controlling the on/off for the scatter mfx, ill change the effect and try it and see if i get the same results as you

Yeah ive been wanting to do the same, i ended up just assigning the same sample to different pads and then changing the note manually in the 404

one of the most consistent bugs ive come across is when the sx reverb is on bus 1 and time and tone at 100 and you bring the wet up real fast, it breaks the right channel and you only hear the left side. at this point its consistent enough you can kind of be purposeful with it but still not my preferred result

can you say more about this? I was wondering why ext bpm sync wasn’t working for me and it sounds like this is the why

yes, mine does this - figured it was intentional but I find it disruptive

thanks for all the inspiration & validation!
would love to hear how your track turned out, if you want to share it

Anyone else having absolutely no luck with end snap? I can consistently get it to end snap one beat into the next bar but it will never snap on a full bar. This is with tempos set correctly and on both resampling patterns and samples.

Also I did a little battery life test on Eneloop Pros. Got over 5.5 hours of use with pad brightness set to the second lowest setting. Here’s hoping they’ll someday add the ability to dim the screen too. I’m pretty sure it’s the biggest battery drain. I do wonder why they don’t allow it to be changed given how customizable everything else is. Is it a hardware limitation?

ext sync in only functions in pattern mode. (happy to hear otherwise)
would be useful to me if bank bpm could be set to the ext midi clock.
i’d also like to be able to start sampling with midi transport (maybe another setting on COUNT IN?), auto setting the sample bpm and end snap with the clock.
and dj mode should receive ext clock!

As soon as it gets mixed, I’ll post it here - or directly into your DMs.
Hit me up if I don’t deliver : my baby daughter is taking most of my time lately!

When in a 2-bar loop, press the REC button (sampling end button) simultaneously with the first beat of the third bar.

God yeah I don’t trust bpm sync at all and don’t use any time based FX when midi syncing externally because of it

So my mistake was to actually wait a split second as that’s what some people online claim. You have to hit ‘Rec’ basically right on time to get it to snap properly.

Edit: still very inconsistent though. It often does not work for me.

I hate computers for music, but this was necessary.
any TX Modular users out there feel free to try this, probably need to reset the midi ports.
not super clean with it’s message sending (and nature of the system means some things don’t visually update which is a shame), 35+ CCs at once means some glitching, which can be nice, some smoothing on the params could be fun too so they drift rather than snap (next version, but the morph controller kind of does this right now).

TX Modular is a pretty amazing software modular using the Supercollider environment.

if you load this is in it ,with a midi device connected, it’s a raw randomiser/controller for SP-404MKII FX. (not tested on windowspc)
please mod.

Hello guys,

I’ve been eyeing the SP for a while, but I haven’t found an answer for this: can the audio inputs be separated in 2 mono individual ones or does it have to be 1 stereo one only? The reason behind this question is that I would like to avoid using a mixer and I want to connect 2 mono synths to the SP, but don’t want them to be split in L & R.

Thank you for your response!

i just tried routing the line input mono (can’t be separated LR) and mic/guitar input.
yes! two mono inputs! nice,

would be great if Roland could allow LR as mono.
a mono option in input settings (shift + CTRL 3) like samples have.
even better: level, pan and BUS routing for each.

So, you are talking about the input on the front and the input on the back right? And how about 2 synths in the line inputs on the back, are they split in L & R? Or as 2 mono inputs?

Has anyone taken the dive into the SP BECAUSE of the shortcomings of the KO2?

I almost pulled the trigger on drop day of KO2, but actually stepped back and realized for the same price (used), I could get resampling , audio over USB, and far greater sample time with the 404.

I am fully aware that these two samplers serve different purposes and niches, but the omissions on the KO2 sent me over the edge into the 404.

I started playing my SP way more when I decided to pause on buying the TK.
