Without going to DJ mode, isn’t there a setting to play muted pads through headphones?
How is the SP compared to using the Octatrack?
Initially, it’s a different flavour of obtuse. Main difference for me is having to keep stopping playback to do things, which seems so 1980s. Right now, the 404 sequencer seems more of an afterthought than something you’d integrate seamlessly into your performing/sampling workflow. It doesn’t remember the settings you make to effects over power cycles and, oh yes, you can’t name the samples you make without using a computer.
Wow - thank you
I think I will get an Octatrack it will integrate better with my digitone and Rytm
The Octatrack is the One Ring to rule them all.
but what that skipback be like?
I love all my samplers, the SP404mk2 included, but if the Octatrack could have only one other instrument in the studio, I hope it would pick me…
I’ll post a review when my SP404 arrives and I have some time with it. That would be a fun comparison video for me to make.
It’s dope…. During recording it’s like a constant 40sec autosave
yep I miss it already, just sold my mk2 yesterday
No!
yeeeep, outside of the skipback feature I just wasn’t utilizing the rest enough to keep it
Yes Octatrack is the real OG and my favorite Elektron box. I’m putting Roland SP 404 MK2 in same class as the OP-1 and Roland boutique battery jam boxes like TB03 and TR-08. Great sketch and supplement tools but not studio brain like Octatrack. Which is fine as my Octatrack costs 3x as much and requires power outlet. It will be fun to have and use both in different ways.
Great watch!
That was freakin fantastic!
Quick question about transport control on the SP404 mk2. If you are running midi into the 404 from an Elektron box sending clock and transport. Will the 404 respond to start stop messages etc? How does the pattern select page work with external start stop?
Been messing with sync on the 404 from my modular, but the behavior is a little weird sending midi clock from a Pam expander. Wondering how it works with Elektron transport etc?
Patterns on the sp404 start and stop in response to incoming midi start/stop.
