Great work Roland!
ANyone going to sell their Digitakt, is it even worth keeping knowing this is coming out soon. If any UK heads are looking for one, I post it in classifieds soon.
What estimated delivery date did Guitar Guitar give? Gear4music saying February…
(Thomann saying 6 to 8 weeks)
I’ve never used a 404 – how do folks feel about the lack of step sequencing?
Personally I’d use another device to do complex or step style sequencing.
They haven’t given a date.
Which I’m fine with, but I was going with the 6-8 week Thomann estimate. I don’t actually have the money right now, so that’s why I ordered from GG, with the deposit.
NGL this sorts out all the issues I had with OT. I normally use OT for sequencing drum breaks and other percussive sounds along with a Polyend Tracker. I was thinking about how I could use it live to perform where I had whole tracks or stems and time stretch them to other things I’ve written and it looks like the 404 does that.
I know I could have stems and change those with parts+ have internal sampling turn around but this seems simpler.
Probably won’t use it as my main sampler but as I was about to buy a model:samples for using as a sample based drum machine I’m afraid I’m going to buy this instead. The only thing holding me off is the lack of step sequencing. Odd that Roland doesn’t have that but I guess they want to go for the MPC/Maschine crowd
Sweetwater said November.
Peepz used to rock an SP404sx + OG Circuit combo for step sequencing goodness. Today, an SP404mkII + Circuit Tracks as a step sequencer / hub for two more synths combo sounds like a dope lil’ setup.
feeeeeeck…I almost only own samplers…stop it.
Agreed. 18650s offer the best of both worlds really. Cheap/replaceable if they die and good enough performance, plus small enough for music gear.
I’m 100% keeping my DT. This would (if I get it) just be an nice extra for FX, occasional stereo samples etc. For me, the dual filters, dual LFOs, bitcrushing, extreme downtuning, and master compressor of the DT (not to mention its sequencer tricks) are absolutely critical to my recent music and I’m so quick with it now. I can see having both DT (or OT) and the SP-404 MKII being complementary tho.
Hmm they told me December.
In Australia, the price is over $200 more than the US/AUD conversion rate works out at… WTF with that?
People praising this thing as a bargain. Not here.
You are correct. I misheard the message they left me. I listened to it again and he did indeed say “a month and a half”. So you’re right-December.
Lol I‘m drowning in them too and I still want the SP404mk2 — I was gonna preorder, but then I brought out the Koala app to mess around with and it sort of lowered the urgency again…it might be a very temporary calm, but for now it has eased the impatience
I see the SP404 as a pure sampler instrument, focussed on playability and performance. That‘s what makes it attractive and gives it a place next to eg an MPC Live — as well as the performance-centric FX of course.
So you see, rationalisations abound…
I’ll be looking into it at the least because I’m an absolute gear nerd, bit if it turns out I could use it a synced DJ FX unit on the FX loop of my DJ mixer ouf. Might have to have depending on price point. To really flip my switch it would have to work well without recording samples directly.
I’ve only ever owned and SP-202 briefly when I was obsessed with gear that had “character.” But I remember liking to use it.
Also, I’ll have to peep Koala, keep seeing the name about.
Surely the samples convert when you drag them into the app? Unless you are wanting to copy the samples back off it via computer and then transfer them to the other gear via computer…
Where did you see Roland say they are adding more FX?
Thats big if true
Its bollocks. Australia tax again. I tried to buy from Thomann and posted a pic further up this thread. They are not allowed to ship to Aus on Rolands request. I bet the AUS supplier has negotiated an exclusive deal so Roland doesnt allow other retailers to ship to AUS and StoreDJ gets to pump the price up
