That’s because Panda Bear is a talented musician and gifted singer. He wasn’t sitting in his parents bed resampling the same Dismemberment Plan loop over and over until it was chicken fried rice.
yep, I begged roland for class compliancy on their mx-1 mixer, I bought two after all… and of course they just said no twice
Well that was worthwhile
WTH?!?!?When did ComicBook Guy from the Simpsons go and work for Roland. HAHAH!
The legato on a full loop is something obvious that I didn’t think of. Really cool. https://youtu.be/GRDJMwf4hak
can the 404 do single cycles? I jsut got the adventure kid waveforms and converted them to 16bit 48khz in reaper. I tried to put them onto the 404 via the desktop app and it said media error. tried to load them onto SD and weirdly it lets me preview the sounds via browser but doesnt let me load them. says unsupported file. dont know if ive done something wrong in conversion or if it just cant load single cycle waveforms
okay so it seems the 404 cant go down to single cycle. I ended up sampling the waveform in and trying to trim down as small as possible and theres still some space at the end of the waveform.
you can still get around this by putting the loop point at the end of the wave and turning on reverse. envelopes dont really work properly and legato doesnt work but its still cool to be able to do with all the FX then you can resample and get weird with it. no complaints obviously its not intended for this. just exploring
ive also noticed that in chromatic mode if you hold a note and turn on an effect the note latches on even if gate is on.
Omg thanks for this. I’ve been trying to figure out why some people are able to import sample rates other than 48k and I get errors. I was cropping my down-sampled files for testing to save transfer time.
Same thing, previewed fine on the sub pad, but “unsupported file” when actually importing. I never would have guessed the length was the actual issue.
I used my SP-404 MK2 to make my first ever sample pack … it’s so much fun sampling and chopping on the SP … check it out if you like:
Quick Q.
I have a Rytm mk2 and an A4 mk2. When I attach the A4 to the SP 404 mk2, and I turn on ext monitor, I hear it fine out of the SP…the volume is good and I can sample from the A4.
For some reason, using the same exact 1/4 cables, I plug the Rytm into it and the volume is super low…barely hear it, even with the volume knobs on both all the way up. I have the levels on the Rytm all maxed out, the track and pad levels maxed out. I tried a new project in the Rytm and same thing.
OMG…last night I was pulling my hair out. So, ended up sampling drums from the A4 but would love to sample the Rytm!!! Any ideas for me to try when I get home?
Does this thing p-lock ?
NO, it does not. The new step sequencer allows you to kinda place a few parameter changes per step, but there is no way to make changes to the existing step without deleting and replacing the step.
It does not exhibit the same behavior as the ELEKTRON WAY ie, holding step and changing parameters, and there is no way to hold step to see the previous parameter changes if that makes sense.
Hope that makes sense. If not, check out the 2.0 videos previously posted in this thread! I reposted @DimensionsTomorrow post to save you some scrolling.
Help appreciated - I’ve got the SP404 Mk2 hooked up to an iPad (single USB-C cable) running ThumbJam standalone. I hit Ext-In so that I can hear the iPad’s audio and sample it, but every time I hit Ext-In it triggers an annoying held MIDI note in ThumbJam that never releases. Same with Animoog standalone, and I’m assuming any app that is receiving MIDI from the 404. The rest of the pads trigger notes in the expected way - good, I’d like to be able to use the 404 MIDI out capability - but this is driving me a little crazy. Any ideas how to solve this? It seems bizarre to me the the Ext-In pad would send any MIDI data at all. I am working in the default project in Bank J.
Edit: Tried power cycling both devices. Tried a factory reset. Tried using an AUv3 instrument in AUM. Tried different banks. Same issue persists. Quite infuriating… Does the SP404 at least have a MIDI panic button somehow? Do others experience this?
Yes. And it seems to have been that way since it was released. I have no idea why. And it is clearly behavior that gets in the way of obvious use cases.
Only velocity and pitch can be changed by pressing the pad + turning the knob. Sadly, this is not possible with the Start parameter…
Ahh, that is bizarre and frustrating. Basically limits you to apps that have a MIDI panic button. Can’t imagine why anyone would ever prefer this behaviour.
Just tested with the log in Mosaic and the note is triggered for all banks. I noticed the behaviour is different for the Ext Source pad - it sends the note as a toggle, rather than a note on / note off event, so you need to press it twice to turn the note off (probably the reason for your stuck notes). This is the same behaviour as the pad itself, which toggles the input on and off, but it seems a bit odd that it also applies to the MIDI note event. Definitely needs an option to disable this.
The fix for ext in and midi is to change your external midi device to anything but midi channel 1 if I remember correctly.
This works! I set up a plugin in AUM with the SP as the MIDI input, and filtered out ch1 on the AUM audio channel settings, which meant that nothing from bank A got through at all. On banks B-J notes still went through on the respective MIDI channels, but no notes were received from the Ext Source pad.
I guess you could set up a more specific filter in Mozaic to just ignore the individual note, if you needed to use ch1.
Fantastic, thanks, good to know there is a decent workaround.
