I’ve got one as well. Finally had some time to create some sounds for it. I can only say that this one sounds really good. I wonder when Studio Electronics and Roland will join forces again to create a 19" rack or tabletop/boutique poly. Like an Omega or Code on steroids.
I don’t really have a problem with the small knobs, but for (fine)tuning, I prefer the editor.

Among its many uses I’ve enjoyed that it can create most of the classic moog sounds from the late 60s… instant mort garson, dick hyman and others practically for pennies compared to those walls of moog. Instant patch recall is really powerful with that kind of arranging in mind

You’re right! It’s like a very affordable Minimoog, with quite a few bonuses. I also agree that patch storage/recall is very powerful and saves you a lot of time.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post this here, but I’ve created these sounds and some demos here:

My first unit was like you describe. I sent it to Roland and got a replacement with proper tuning. This was right after I bought it in 2018, I think. Still have it. Great synth. I’m using DN to sequence it and parameter lock from DN works as a charm.

You’ve created some great presets!

Ahh thanks for sharing - I got mine second hand ages ago so probably no chance of getting a replacement off Roland - never mind! I’ve fudged it by using pitchbend on my midi events so that the lower registers are in tune. Might look for a replacement since its such a great synth for all registers/leads/bass/fx etc it’s a shame it’s not in tune across the whole range on my unit.

What guitar pedals are people using with the SE-02?
I’ve had a hard time removing the Boss BF-2 flanger from mine… opens up another side of the sound and seems to tolerate the level well. Curious if anyone runs theirs directly through phasers, chorus, distortion, reverb, delays that just seem to play well with the unit

Personally, I like to use my old Ibanez Stereo Chorus to create a stereo sound, or record the same part twice and pan it in opposite directions. Sometimes added by a Boss DD7 delay and OTO BAM for reverb. If I want less distortion/feedback than that’s availabale on the SE-02, I could go for a fuzz or distortion pedal.

I don’t have many pedals - EHX Platform and EHX Operation Overlord for comp/limit/overdrive, and a cheapo old school Zoom G5 digital multi fx for, well, everything, but mainly time-based fx. Some very bold delay and modulation fx on that!
The EHX pedals give nice grit and girth or can also go extreme overdrive flavours. Nice to have the three bands of tone/EQ on the Overlord - you can really sculpt the tone to your needs.

Yeah these are great! I had a JHS modded one with some extra features like tap tempo and dual modes etc. Was awesome!

Cool, I’ve got an EHX Operation Overlord as well, great pedal. Could easily be named Napalm Death hehe.
Yeah the EHX OO’s got a wide range and the adjustable input level switch is a great idea that I wish more pedals had to make them play well with a range of gear. If you’re just gonna get one overdrive it’s a good choice (but of all the types of FX distortion/OD are probably the category where you want a lot of different devices for the different flavours).

I often run my simple mono synths through my KP3+ too for wilder results!

I appreciate the dirt ideas because I tried running SE-02 through an overdrive with poor results, cut far too much bass and hi. I’m typically looking to retain maximum low end with those sounds.

Just been browsing the forums and there’s this thread for the JHS Color Box which looks like an interesting tone shaping / overdrive box too (not tried it but looks promising to shift the tone of a mono synth in interesting ways):

I’ve found preamp pedals can do wonders for a bit of saturation. DOD PreAmp 250 and the newer Boss Wasa preamp are my two faves. Also, HM-2 for distortion.

The Boss Wasa Preamp looks like a cool one. You mean that white one?
In the meantime, I’ve written a review about the SE-02. It might be interesting to some people. Consider yourself invited to give it a read.

Ah, great! On the list
I wonder if there’s a stereo version that’s just as good. Of course, you could use two of those pedals, but I’d rather have a stereo version.
That’s always the bummer about most pedals.
