Roland RE Series Tape Echo Servicing UK

Does anyone know a reputable company / technician (other than Soundgas) who could do a full service on a Roland RE301 tape echo? There is no actual fault with mine at the moment, but it sounds as though of late its getting a bit squeaky.

I have rung Soundgas 6 months ago and they basically said they’re ‘too busy’, (even to put me on the waiting list??).

Although I have a local repair guy who could do it, I do think I would prefer someone who knows the unit well give it a total MOT, so it can keep going as long as possible.

It’s such a part of my outboard sound, I have had it 25 years, and its only had a few minor faults in all that time. It deserves some TLC.

matt padden glasgow
not the cheapest but is very skillful and careful, he added midi to my pearl fightman drum synth, added midi and repaired a korg pe1000, replaced some sliders on a teisco 60f, repaired my roland tr 808 which was quite a thorough job(i had to send it back again because the accent pot had a bad solder joint but he did so much to make that 808 kick arse i dont blame him for missing that one solder joint, and he sorted that slight issue out free of charge. he did a akai vx600 for me too with new screen, sorted out some issues that another tech couldnt sort out and had it running tip top. check out his instagram and facebook page if you like vintage gear, he goes into a little bit of detail on his repairs.

adrian dolente of synth restore is good and has cheaper prices, he fixed my old tb303 and replaced the ram and added a quicksilver cpu, he also fixed a doepfer ms 404 that had had the wrong voltage put on it, he bypassed the psu and added a socket for a 9V plug if i recall correctly. i bought a realistic mg 1 off ebay that was fixed by synth restore and it was fixed up really well. none of the goo or any of the standard problems you get with that synth. i did send him a cheetah ms6 but he couldnt repair it but didnt charge me anything. this was about 7 years ago.

theres another place in glasgow called synth cat ? thats supposed to be reasonable, never tried it

That’s a great lot of information and testimony.

I completely forgot I had my Revox B77mk2 serviced by Vintage Tech (Guildford) who does mostly reel-to-reels.

He also fixed an Akai DS4000 reel-to-reel of mine at the same time which was a delightful surprise, as I had one reel held on with a clothes peg!
