Florian fired some shots at the end of his 4d review, LOL
Does it have class compliant usb audio out of the box? Need that for easy recordings to my iPad
I do not need another studio synth, but the Roland Gaia 2 is highly intriguing and priced reasonably. It is definitely on a very short list of synths under consideration for later this year.
I wonder how this one is selling for them so far
I admit to initially being dismissive about this synth, but I think this synth is highly underrated. The “Gaia” moniker is misleading because this synth is actually pretty complex. For all of this complexity to have such an approachable UI is impressive.
n/zyme is Roland’s first wavetable synth and this version of the engine has way more features than the cut-down version in the SH-4D. The Gaia 2’s ability to record real-time motion recording of the x/y pad and use it as a modulation source is great. The customizable step-sequencer LFO and the ability to modulate FX parameters is great too.
I’ve been gradually developing a lot of GAS for this synth since I currently don’t own any Roland gear and am looking for a compact keyboard.
I agree with the Gaia name potentially being misleading or underselling the capabilities. But on the other hand I suspect there’s a pretty large set of keys players out there who have the original Gaia as their only synth to go with their stage piano and have never felt the need to switch. Fast forward 10-12 years and there’s a Gaia2 - I reckon a lot of them might go eh what the hell, I deserve a new toy and pick one up.
Roland simply missed a huge opportunity to just make a SH4D with keys instead of that monotimbral device. Now you could argue there is the Jupiter XM in this range, but it’s more expensive and lacks more exotic oscillators such as wavetables and FM.
Gaia is on sale for $200 off at most popular online retailers. Seriously considering grabbing one today despite the aluminum color. If it came in black I would have had it months ago.
Anyone have one? If so, what day you?
I wouldn’t give too much about that ranking, might just be what they want to advertise
SH-4d models/timbres are much more limited than what Gaia 2 can do and since there’s probably similar if not the same chip inside, I don’t think it’s capable of more than one such timbre. Just my guess of course.
I want something with similar sounds to my MC101 (mostly need acoustic/real instruments/rompler, synth sounds a bonus).
MC101 sounds fine for my purposes but I need more immediate hands-on controls.
Anyone know if the Gaia 2 woukd work for me?
Same for me. I think Roland did a great job with the whole synth. I think that sometimes it gets prejudged based on the name and the original synth. The price may be an issue too for some, but on sale, it is definitely alluring.
I like it at this discounted price, too. The Loopop video made it seem pretty decent and mostly knob per function? I’ve never owned a Roland before, not as interested in the boutiques but this feels like a relatively new and unburdened product. Will be comparing against Minilogue XD and similar in this mid range price. Would love feedback from current owners.
