Roland Cloud thoughts...?

For the most part, especially the sound, I love Rolands VSTs.

But their manager software is the worst I’ve ever used. Ever since I got it, it has been nagging and spamming me on different occasions, forcing me to log in over and over again, first in the manager and then in the VST itself.

It’s gotten worse lately, it’s remaining logged in, but it’s instead spamming the screen with multiple pops, ever single time I open up a project with a Roland VSTs, and It’s very frustrating.

I can close the pop ups and then I works. Reinstalled the manager without luck. Wonder if there is a fix…

On the gearspace thread one of the Roland team will often respond to posts

Thanks! Might check that out, and probably need to face the music and reach out to their support

There are a number of fixes. The easiest is, in the Roland Cloud Manager app:

  • Click “Settings” in the upper right
  • Select “Advanced Options”
  • Click “Restart Roland Cloud services"
  • Click “Accept"

You can also do this manually. The problem is that the background process (called "Roland Clound Manager Service”) has stopped responding for some reason. To fix this (it looks like you’re on a Mac) you can:

  • Open Activity Monitor
  • Type “Roland” into the search box.
  • Select “Roland Cloud Manager Service”
  • Click the :stop_sign: (stop) button.
  • Select “Force Quit”

This will cause the old service to (eventually) die, and a new one to be created in its place.

But this simply fixes a stalled background process. The bigger question is why is your process stalling so often? It’s not generally a problem (in the latest version this happens to me 2–3 times a year at most), so if it is happening to you frequently, there’s probably something else going on. Some things to check:

Assuming you’re on Sequoia, in “System Settings” → “General” → “Login Items & Extensions”, under “Allow in the Background”, do you have an item there for Roland? If so, is it turned on?

Speaking of Roland Cloud, does anyone know if the perpetual licenses are re-sellable? I’ve been thinking I could let go of my Zenology Pro license, I bought it for creating patches for my MC-101 but have since given the MC-101 away to a young bloke who wanted to start making beats…

When I last looked (which was at least 7–8 years ago) transfer of licenses wasn’t possible. But Roland are the best people to ask if it’s possible today. I’ve always found their support to be really responsive on questions like this: https://www.roland.com/cloud/contact-us

I checked more recently than @jemmons, maybe a year ago, and it wasn’t an option. That said, I’d take the advice above and reach out to Roland.

Thanks but I seem to now recall asking about them about this already. They said I’m SOL
