Roland AIRA Compact Series: T-8 beat, J-6 chord & E-4 voice

I would like to see a compact version of the JD-08, preferably with the J-6 sequencer and dual multitimbral.

In general, my expectations for the Aira Compact series are high. I find it just as exciting as what may come from Elektron.

And there are still many colours not assigned

A question regarding the J-6:

No matter which pad velocity value I set in the menu, the chord sequencer always generates notes with velocity = 100. This also happens when the arp is off and/or I clear/initialize the pattern before.

That seems like a bug to me. Or am I doing something wrong?

I don’t think it’s a bug. The J6 kind of reinitilizes when you go through different modes. So there is a bit of separation between chord mode and manual inputs.

I think it’s the same with all the compacts.

Is there an easy way to just drop down one of the chord notes an octave?

Or do you just have to input the 4 notes manually and “octave down” manually for one of them?

Make a sequence by using the chord mode. then with the step selected, press chord again to edit notes.

If the step is dim, then change the octave to find the step. Then you can rearrange the notes as you see fit.

Thanks for this! Appreciate it.

I really need to dig into the manual again…

It’s actually a pretty short read. It’s actually better to use it a bunch, and you can figure out what it does.

I can always try to help out if you get stuck.

I think each step is only 4 note polyphony btw.

I gave in and ordered the t-8
It’ll be here in the morning possibly.
I expect I’ll do generic electro with 303 and filter sweeps.

I keep going back and forth on this… the only thing stopping me is the fact that i have Pocket Operators

i have all of those , theyve been in ‘the storage box’ for a long time…havent come out of it.
i have a barely used syntakt, donner B1, td-3 mo on my desk atm

i have kept an eye out for 2nd hand t-8 , but once shipping is added theyre no cheaper than buying brand new (free next day shipping on amazon)

Do you have the J6? That would be an awesome pairing…

side not to anyone who knows, but I used the J6 as a synth engine, going thru Logic’s External Instrument MIDI track, and I could play it, something was lost over the usb connection… I was using a midi keyboard over usb as well, and with the keyboard, I wasnt getting the same velocity as the integrated keyboard on the J6. even with altering the velocity amounts in the keyboard.

T8 Ordered at 8pm
Arrived next day at 11am
I know Amazon has many critics but it’s hard to complain about that speed of free delivery

Hey guys, i am trying to add external footswitch/pedal for E-4 to record loops. Seems like this midi command is not presented. Is it true? Really strange that the looping over MIDI is not presented.
Thank you

Probably best to check midi implementation chart in the manual

yeah, its not there :frowning:

My T8 arrived

First impressions are very good.

It’s a nice form factor, seems reasonably well made given the price and sounds good.

Having a sequencer with probability and ratchets is very cool on a device in this price range. As you would expect from Roland the delay and reverb sound excellent.

The only downer so far is that the 303 is very “polite” sounding. That said I haven’t worked out how to use the overdrive effect yet so that might improve things a bit.

It wouldn’t kill them to stick a simple pattern chain on these, you know press and hold something blah blah.

I know they are almost toys, but 32 steps is about 32 steps below my threshold

I hoped if they’d get a small update from Roland to add that or some other tweaks, but it’s been a few months and now I’m not so optimistic
