Rodec Restyler

hey all,
i’ve been thinking of getting a rodec/sherman restyler for a while now and i was wondering if any of ya’ll have played around with one and if you have, how did you like it?

I’ve checked out a bunch of demo videos on youtube and it seems pretty neat but it’d be cool to hear from anyone who has used it a bunch.

Really great filter. I had previously had a Filterbank, but preferred the Restyler for my purposes. I was mainly using it on either drum busses or full mixes. It’s cool because you can get it to dynamically respond to a precise frequency.

Only sold it because I needed the money.

I did get a little unwanted distortion on kicks sometimes - you have to be careful about setting the gain precisely, especially when you want to get a response from the envelope without distorting.

I use it on a bunch of videos on my channel such as this

If you look around on there you might find some where I use it more dramatically

here’s one

Neat thanks!
Purple tomato is a rad track.

Not exactly the Restyler, but the sound is definitely there!
Tried it at Superbooth 2025 — and it’s a lot of fun. It features MIDI In and CV In, so just hook up a small Eurocase with your favorite modulation source or connect via MIDI, and you’re good to go.
They also added a limiter, so unlike the original Restyler, it’s no longer a life-threatening experience.

How agressive is it compared to the original Restyler ?

Yes the original Restyler had some nasty resonance.

I may get one of these Rodec 100 chassis things to do some nice mobile analog front end recording. I’ll probably max it out because I’m silly like that.

Is there any pricing on this yet?

About 660 euros

Like mentioned, it has now a limiter on the output. Its not a Über-aggressive filter like the OG Sherman or a Korg MS 20 . More musical . But has nice vibe.

I’ve had the original Rodec Restyler so I remember the subtle filter but with modulation you can make things groove on its own. I’m excited for the FM knob on the compact version.

FYI, I just talked to Tom from Rodec over the weekend the chassis has arrived and he expects it to ship to preorders within the next two weeks,

I just ordered to ship to Tampa, FL and it cost me about 705 euros. Crossing my fingers on any potential tariffs though. Review will come as soon as my unit arrives.

What made the OG Restyler unique were the 3 filters. And each of the 3 had it’s own envelope amount. But the new one is still a pretty cool device i think.

I was looking at these earlier this year but the tariff thing kind of spoiled the vibe entirely. Would love to hear your thoughts on it once it arrives though. I’m a big Rodec/Sherman fan.

Just arrived. Added the line preamp for character and the EQ for my build. Cost be about €1350 with tariffs to US. I’ll have some demos by end of the week for you all.

Yes please! Would love to hear it. You don’t happen to have the Sherman Filterbank 2 to compare it to would you?

Would love to hear some demos! Especially some 808 patterns if possible?

I’ve been thinking about getting this combo but with the 104 filter instead. Phable did a nice video of that but would be great to hear the ministyler / line pre / eq combo for comparison…

No, I don’t have a filter bank 2 . PM me any loops you want processed and I’ll post the demos for everyone. I was tracking an acoustic kit last night from the Roland spd and I’ll post some of it tonight.

I’ll work on the 808 and 909 kits from my SPD for you . It gets crazy. You don’t need a compressor with this signal chain to crush drums. Although I may do some demos with a compressor at the end.

The line preamp is behaved but once you use the +30dB gain you are banging war drums.

More to come. This is the first demo in the series. Please watch your headphone levels because it goes from clean gain to Atari Teenage Riot explosive. The Rodec one chassis can output up to +26dBU. I use the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE to capture the distortion without clipping my convertors.

This starts out with a clean gain on the M-108 line preamp. Then I press the +30dB gain option and run the input more and more aggressive. This is a based off of a 1970s Belgian recording preamp. I’ll try to track some 808s and 909s through it just to demo what destruction we get with the kicks and toms.

Then we will explore the M102 3 band EQ. combine with the preamp.

Sounds really good to me. Looking forward to the next demos - appreciate it!
