One of the coolest tracks ever made

Such a shame. Everybody Loves the Sunshine is a perfect example of the uniquely powerful emotions that experimental jazz-funk can evoke. I am absolutely goo-goo for Kool & the Gang’s Light of Worlds - that album introduced me to the ethereal sound that I find in Roy Ayers’ music as well. Really brilliant music.

My mate used to be a white van man (a man with a van) and I got him into jazz-funk-fusion stuff. He’d blast out music like this on his way to jobs while chomping on endless long cigarettes. Good times.

I always think of these two as a twofer and can never decide which one is my favourite of his.

Or maybe it’s this one.

Lucky enough to see him a few times in the past decade in pretty small clubs, some of my all time favourite shows.

RIP one of the TRUE greats.
I was lucky enough to see him several times and growing up in spitting distance of the Caister Soul Weekend his music is a soundtrack to my formative years. Very sad news but a heartful thank you Sir!!

Listen online, or if you’re savvy with yt-dlp you can download Gilles Peterson’s BBC tribute show:

saw him in the jazz cafe a few times back in the nineties - warm vibes and soul - thank you for the music - r.i.p.

I had the opportunity to watch him play at a tiny venue in Heidelberg once, where I was almost on stage. Managed to get a few nice shots of him with my trusty PowerShot G6. At the time I was pretty much oblivious of his superstar status.
