RIP Roberta Flack

Sad news. A generational voice

If you grew up in the early 80s then her music was grocery-store background. Her music is that kind that I wish I could hear freshly, without the layers of nostalgia or anti-nostalgia.

“Feel Like Making Love” has always been one of my favorite R&B songs from that era, it’s extremely light R&B, admittedly, but there’s an art to ear candy as well.

Rest in peace, to a beautiful voice.

Gorgeous debut album with the great Ron Carter on the bass.

I remember one night I was at this club and enemies were going at it hard at one another and the dj put this song on and it all violence ceased.

I have wondered so many times where else in the universe might someone like her exist.

it was bitter sweet, as a friend of mine became kind of like a pseudo vegetable like state that night… somebody hit him in the head with a chair and he was never the same after that… his friends called him Woof, and he was a gentleman and a roughen haha just the sweetest person on the inside but he was a follower so he couldn’t stay out of it… after that anytime I saw him all he would do is say my first name and smile, and stand there with a glazed look on his face… we never had another conversation that went further than that… he just couldn’t do it… I don’t know if he’s still alive or not but I wish they had played that song earlier I’ve always felt like he was the last one to get hit… sadly it could have been worse.
