DOOM is my most played artist of all time and I found out he was dead like 2 minutes after new year. Thanks for the parting gift 2020. Always wanted the special herbs full box set on vinyl, bet I’ll never get it now! RIP to the greatest, massive influence on me

For me, he is definitely up there with Biggie and Rakim.

Fuuuuuuck!?
Dude was a massive influence for me. I still remember the first time I heard him. Hanging out in a squat in seattle. No power. Dumping rain. Listening on cassette on an old boombox. I was getting tired of hip hop at the time and hearing him was a total revelation. Like a ray gun into the creative center of my brain. It’s what got me into sampling.
He never fell off like so many others who I respected. He just did him, period. Totally unique and out of left field. The term “absolute legend” gets used a lot these days but people like him (as if there are any) are who define it.
A true inspiration in super villainy.

I love Mr Fantastik’s voice, him and DOOM had two of my favourite flows. DOOM’s a smokey drawl and Fantastik’s silky smooth. Rap Snitch Knishes off MM…FOOD and Anti Matter off Take Me to Your Leader, just so good.

‘True to the ski mask, New York’s my origin
Play a fake gangsta like a old accordion’.

Also, just wanted to shout out to Operation Doomsday, an album with some absolute bangers.

‘And the light went down on the hey-ey’

I’ve got so many memories of driving around with this in my car.

One of my mates used to find the drum programming (snare hits etc) hilarious. I always loved how it sounded.

Yeah! That’s the thing, the snare hits etc are hilarious - sloppy and random, all over the place, and everything fits in with the DIY aesthetic of the music. Never once listening to DOOM did he strike me as someone who was showing off, acting hard… The characters he portrayed were criminal masterminds but he himself never struck me as the typical arrogant rapper, the music felt like a loose comic strip story cut and paste like a collage of words and pictures to rhymes like dimes… Just spent an hour listening to Monster Zero on repeat whilst cooking dinner, forgot how much I love this track.

One of my all time favorites. Madvillainy is a desert island disk. Special Herbs got me through a lot of difficult times. I was hoping the Doom/Yorke album would be a reality someday. This hurts.
