RIP Hulk Hogan

Ah great! That song is stuck in my head now!

I remember making a techno remix of “I Am A Real American” back in the 2010’s and playing it at a gig… In fact, I still think I got the sampled chops somewhere…

Thanks for all the good times. Hulkomania 4 ever

Yeah, for me, these figures were like cartoon characters when I grew up. Something that’s not real, but can seep into reality, like appearing in-character in Talkshows (something no celebrity does today as far as I know).

Today, all these characters just turn all out as horrible people! -_-
(Haven’t heard anything about Hulk Hogan since “Thunder In Paradise” in 1995.)

There’s a good documentary about his sex tape and him trying to silence the media.

Kayfabe I believe is the name of that, where the character is held in public appearances outside the wrestling media they originally belong in. As far as I understand, much of the rap world also uses (or used to use) kayfabe as a core part of the genre aesthetic.

I’ve checked, Keyfabe (from “be fake”) seems to be acting so that the fight appears to be real.
But I too felt that this guy was fake even in real life: his appearances seemed indeed kind of a cartoon walking in our world.

That’s a pretty good description. That might explain why they’ve managed to become actually powerful and influence reality for the worse in this age of social media characters.

Like a lot of people my age, I spent a good amount of time watching that character, and I enjoyed that, but pretty early on I had a chance to meet him. I was too young to remember, but by all accounts, he was an asshole then too.

It’s sort of sad that someone can become so influential to so many and they were just going through the motions to make a buck.

I think someone else said that they’re mourning the character, not the individual? I think that’s an apt description in this case.
