Yeah I spent a day with it a month or so ago.
Had it synced up to Cirklon so no reason why you couldn’t hook it up to the OT or whatever. It worked flawlessly. Just havent had time to get back to it, not enough hours in the day lol
I love Resolute, and it’s from my city :), I am proud of this few people setting up such amazing software. It’s like ableton for vj’s.
why you can’t sync with ableton. It works on midi… ?
It’s already a long time ago;… but I remember when I organised parties, our VJ just had a mic to sync with… the rhythm of the bass was clear enough for pulsating animations.
I have been experimenting with the demo for a couple of weeks. I thought learning all this stuff was going to be difficult but I’ve found it quite easy and very rewarding so far.
On mac I’m sending midi via the IAC driver bus. You have to set that up. On PC you need something like midi pipe. Once you have a route, you will have to configure Resolume to receive midi and midi clock. After setting everything up, you activate midi map mode (similar to ableton) there is a box that pops up on left hand side (whenever you highlight a control/parameter) which allows you assign a midi number/note. This can also automatically assign a value based on whatever midi is incoming.
I shamelessly plug my vid here… just like 4 days into resolume, and this is the result… I must say I am quite satisfied with myself
so, the big problem remains with the midi ableton syncing … I am on PC, and midi pipe also seems to be for Mac …
any pc user advice /w ableton would be VERY appreciated!
Hey try using this
http://www.nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html
I have used Resolute for years on both PC and Mac. Brilliant program.
Only problem i used to have was in using it with audio and video as a single performance environment. Therefore i settled fairly quickly to having it controlled solely from Ableton. My Octatrack then sends clock to Ableton. Keeps things nice and simple and means i can use dummy/Midi clips to control some of the other aspects of my av performance.
cool, thanks for the link! … will try that tomorrow !
edit: did try it …, works like a charme… big thanks for pointing me towards that!
I love resolume! When I used to dj out my friend would video mix alongside, using a hardware fx mixer, clips, live video feeds from the room and resolume fed with midi data from my dj controller. The best show was when we played a halloween party - I was dressed as jason vorhees from friday 13th, mixing really dark facemelting dubstep/brostep, and he had a big bank of horror movies clips which he was mixing in - really freaked out some of the ketamine crowd by slowly zooming the cameras from a room shot into mine and their eyes and flicking between the feeds XD
That robot Resolume voice is starting to get irritating now Ill have to fork out for it sooner or later. Hopefully they’ll have another sale on sometime soon.
One thing I haven’t worked out so far, is actually compiling the creations into ready made loops. Say you have used a few effects and various media to create a moving sequence…it makes sense to render all of that into a film for live performance later. Like creating audio loops in Ableton for a live set. So far, I can only see the record function in Resolume which begins recording right away. You must then have to edit/cut/paste your material elsewhere I supposse?
Ive also been testing out Magic VJ and highly recommend it so far. Very immediate and as a begginer…not overwhelming either. Created some nice moving visuals very quickly all automated by ableton and audio loops.
that voice is annoying as fuck! … so well eq ed , it cuts through no matter what you play at the same time, or how quiet or loude it is …
i can jam on elektron, use the external inputs on my soundcard, and mute the pc speakers, helps a lot! (ie dont route the external sound through resolume) …
loops: afaik only the record button is available, and afterwards it is back to scissors and duck tape ---- but the resolume developers say, it is not intended in such a way to produce entire videos … I can understand that …
note: the more effects you have and the more layers, the less recording time you have … i rarely make it beyond 50 seconds of recording time …
magic VJ has only a 30 day trial period, that is sad … i dont like that sort of thing… but thanks for pointing that out …
anybody up for creating a 3 min visual for a 3 min track that we exchange amongst each other?
say 3 people throw 3 tracks of 3 minutes each in a bucket, and we make a resolume trial version only, video for the others? …
off course only elektron gear allowed for the music …
ding ding ding … visual lab
Cheers TrabanT. I guess that makes sense for Resolume to focus on more important stuff opposed to implementing features you can find elsewhere. Although it would also make good sense if, the resulting recording would just appear as a clip (as Ableton does when recording a audio), in Resolume’s grid.
So you have to use some video editing software for preparing the footage into loops before importing it back into Resolume. Anyone have any recommendations? Do Video editing programs work with BPM?
I decided to buy it after mucking around few days (on sale for cheap). I had a few eureka moments. You can create good visuals by animating still images etc. I tried doing the same in resolume but it was quite different. I think it is best to pair other software with Resolume for content creation. Stuff like quartz composer (mac) VVVV (PC) and Magic etc.
Resolume, controlled by Ableton’s midi brain, is the nuts…
I haven’t used it for a while but I don’t understand the problems people are having “bouncing” clips. yup, as long as you are using a nice fast drive to record to that is separate from your system and audio drive they appear in the grid ready to be launched perfectly in time…
Ah cool! Cheers for clarifying. I guess a good video editor is necessary for everything else.
Hi 'Nauts,
Anyone of you using Resolume? I downloaded the trail version of Avenue, but having some problems with audio over usb (from Cycles). I posted this on the Resolume forum, but that’s not such a vibrant place as this board, so I thought I’d try it here too:
"Hi,
Newbie here, downloaded trial version of Avenue this week. Very impressed.
Bumped into the following problem on my Macbook (Catalina 10.15.7):
When I want to route audio into Avenue via USB, the built in output of my Mac doesn’t output any sound. In the Avenue preferences I selected the class compliant usb interface (an Elektron Model Cycles synth), as well as all the right input and output-options according to the manual.
In the composition tab in Avenue, under Audio, I selected external FFT and I see that there is audio incoming (the green graph shows movement when I sent audio from the Cycles). I just don’t hear anything coming out of my headphones plugged in to my Mac. What am I doing wrong?
I want to use Resolume mostly to react to my live setup, so I will be feeding it sounds mostly via USB (or is there another, better way?) Cheers, John"
Hey!
This seems to be a routing problem.
I can give you some hints:
Resolume just takes that as the input but it’s not routing it to output (I don’t know if that’s in the feature set of resolume - but I wouldn’t count on it anyways).
Think of the Cycles as a audio interface… maybe try to set MacOS’ output to Cycles (it was always a bit buggy for me tbh) or if you don’t like that try Blackhole:
and or try with aggregated device in the Audio Devices menu to mix the signals.
Cheers!
Casual resolume user here. I think that s correct. Res will not forward audio input to output. Output is for audio that s embedded in imported clips.
I ve used input for modulation and it for sure didn t automatically appear on the output.
Thanks guys! That’s correct. I just couldn’t get my head around the concept that you can put audio in, but none of that is coming out again.
