That’s the price I’d expect from a store used. Maybe you’ll get it for $100 less privately but the lack of paint makes it special. Sorry, I mean different.
It seems crazy to me for people to compare the price that they paid for a DT when it was new, and the price that they could get for selling it, and too conclude that there’s some kind of a problem. That completely ignores two important factors.
Firstly, it ignores the joy that you got from spending hundreds of hours playing with it. That joy has real value to you as a person. So lets say you “lost” £400 between those two prices, but you got 400 hours joy from it. That’s £1 per hour. … You did use your DT did you not?
Secondly, it ignores the objective reality that technology depreciates in value, partly because the units themselves age, and also partly because its entirely predictable that new technologies will come along and supplant them. Did you expect this to be any other way?
For me, used prices for many music technologies have been far too high over the last few years. If you buy used, you are taking a risk, and that risk should be factored into the price, and with many of the prices I’ve seen for the last few years, it hasn’t been.
I think we’re just seeing a return to sane pricing.
If I’m buying tech that is even one year old, I expect to pay at least 30% less than retail, because of the risk I am taking.
Also, the DT2 originally came out at $999. So, seeing them for $850 used is about right.
Doing a quick browse of Reverb, they’re too expensive if anything. I got mine for £400 and now they’re averaging about £450.
Risk is a factor but its valued differently depending on circumstance. Eurorack modules often sell 2nd hand for between 10-25% reduction but the market is smaller and maybe more niche with more trust. Geography can play a big role but probably not so much for people actually transacting on the forum.
I think at this point all of these points have been well phrased in the thread already.
Not to diminish your points, just to mention that this could easily run in circles.
Isn’t that a good thing? It’s a great deal.
Where can I get a used Digitakt for $300? The lowest price I can find for a used one is $470.
Most are around $500 +
Did you spin a complaint wheel for this one?
apart from maybe a week from when the DT2 was announced, they’ve always been $500+. Not sure what the OP has been drinking - wishful thinking maybe.
I see them for under $500 frequently and under $400 occasionally on my local CL and FB marketplace, but I live in a medium sized city with a seeming glut of music gear getting passed around. Either way, complaining about used gear prices being too low is next level stuff.
I love my Digitakt 1, not thinking of selling it ever. I’d probably buy another if I could find one in working condition for $300 is what I’m saying!
Guess the other side to this is that nowadays we seem to expect more successors rather then viewing a bit of kit as a one off. MKII’s / Fields etc and stuck in a iPhone type “gotta upgrade mentality”, hence large sell offs of Version X flooding the market to buy Version XX
I thought this thread had turned into being about giving Shigginpit hugs, I am definitely not going to do that…
but I am going to give the beatmachine of mine that looks the most like him a hug in his name, that will probably be the Digitakt, and whatever he or any of us here might be going through just remember that this too shall pass.
I posted a Digitakt on the classifieds and this website for 500CAD (360USD) and was never able to sell it.
Yes, the store had 1 year warranty also on the second hand 25 silver. Bought a second hand DNK instead. Would have been nice with a silver DNK 25 with the white oled ![]()
We all weigh ‘value’ of stuff differently. And fundamentally what something is ‘worth’ is what someone else will actually pay for it.
I just sold my OG Digitakt for £150. I’d had it listed for more for a while with no bites. It’s done me proud over the years - many gigs & plenty of records & remixes - it’s earned its cost price several times over & I’ve had a terrific time using it.
I knew I was never gonna use it again though & I hate great things sat around doing nothing.
A guy literally round the corner gave me £150 cash - done. no packaging, no postage, no hassle & he was excited to get it & start his journey with this type of instrument. So for me, £150 was absolutely fine & fair.
the criteria with which we may judge value really varies - time, requirements, circumstances…all these things have an impact.
I sometimes see people selling stuff for just say £100 or £75 even under the brand new price & I don’t get that. If I can pay £100 more for brand new from a store then I’m going to do that. If the thing is fairly high ticket value, say over a grand, then I’m going to pay £250 more to buy it brand new rather than used.
I think people get obsessed on getting a ‘return’ on something - I’d just say Im not sure the world (always) works like that. YMMV of course.
I often see 2nd hand items for sale at close to new price , plus there’s shipping on top and no warranty.
For a small amount more I can get brand new, free shipping , warranty .
It’s odd that people selling their gear don’t take all that into account … I know people want as much as they can get but reality needs to kick in too .
Are you familiar with the producer alchemist? He uses a Mpc 2500 and I’m convinced hes the reason a Mpc 2500 is still so expensive. Just like how Kanye probably kept the prices of Mpc 2000s high.
I think having an iconic artist use the device helps re sale value. Thom yorke using the digitakt probably inflated a used digi price slightly.
I’m unaware of any big artist using any elektron products. Not that it matters just observations.
Tldr: if Taylor swift uses a digitakt 1 prices will shoot to the moon lol
