should be visible at startup, standard for all gear/electronics, even coffee machines and beard trimmers.

I believe this is already available, here is the digitone page for instance with dates by the manual download names. These dates change when the manual is updated.

Indeed it does, I can now recall the many times I looked for a particular os coming through to see the date was still way back - it is another manufacturer I am thinking of where update dates are super opaque
Yeah I know when/where it is, but booting to find it briefly flash up could be improved upon so you didn’t need to power cycle. It wouldn’t harm to drop it in a system menu imho
