Relatively inexpensive hardware poly?

I love my Alpha Juno 2. Huge versatility, sits well in a mix, doesn’t sound like the other tired Junos. I don’t need another analog poly…

Until I could afford an OB6. I wouldn’t be able to sell the Juno fast enough.

Yah I only said it for the dramatic effect. If I could afford in OB6 I doubt I would need to get rid of the Juno.

Yes, if you mean the issue of units produced since October 2017. The last update fixed it (my unit had this issue)

Not sure if it’s been fixed, but I bought a new Blofeld about 1 & a half years ago & within 2 months 1 of my encoders stopped working. I heard they are easy to fix & I found an encoder on ebay for $12, so I got that…but still haven’t fixed it. I’ve been on a Boom Bap trip for awhile, so I’ve been really into sampling vinyl, but starting to miss the Blofeld more & more. I need to stop being lazy & get on fixing it!!!

I personally like the interface & I love it’s sound.

Do you mean the last round of Blofeld’s that were built no longer have faulty encoders?

Apart from very specific sonic character stuff they can do anything a cheaper poly can do. I will own one, one day.

I agree. Amazing synth

Yes, the encoders seem to be reliable now.

There has been an issue with units, which had been built after October 2017. Quite a lot of users reported that the same left encoder did not work reliable and had drop-outs or went off-line at all for some time. Fortunately Waldorf took our reports seriously and fixed the bug early this year with a firmware update. I have no problems anymore after the update.

yeah i’m definitely eager to try out a few of the refaces.

There have been issues with encoders on the Blofeld way before October 2017, but if a os update fixes it, I’ll try that. At the time mine went out, it had happened to numerous people & the only way to fix it was to replace it. Supposedly they were bad encoders, not something an os update would fix. I wonder if the October 2017 units are a seperate issue. Guess I’ll find out, I’ll update the os & see if it works

What is considered cheap for a Nord lead 2 (rack)?

I didn’t watch the prices lately but in the last years I saw many Nord Rack 2 go for 300-400 Euro. I had a Nord Rack 2x for 430 or something

I just bought a Nord Lead 2x rack for $625 shipped. Not exactly cheap, but it was in mint condition from a reputable seller.

Waldorf told us that the units built after Octorber 17 had got some hardware improvements and they agreed that many people complaining about the same left encoder obviously pointed to a software bug. I think, it would have been very strange, if all of us had exactly a faulty endocder at the same position on the instrument.

But I fear that the new update might not fix it for older units, which have been built prior to October 17 and having faulty encoders. Maybe there is more information at the Waldorf Forum.

I’ll throw in another vote for Blofeld. I love my Blofeld.
I’ll also throw in another vote for Alesis micron/ion. I love my ion. Also the drift function makes a convincing analog emulation.

Thanks Soundrider, I’ll check it out. The encoder that’s out on mine is the right encoder under the screen. Just in case I’ll start with updating the os (it can’t hurt) & if that doesn’t do it, I’ll replace the encoder. Will probably only take me 15 minutes to fix, I can’t believe I procrastinated it this long. Once it’s fixed it will be like getting a new piece of equipment…I’m getting excited typin about it, I should just fix it tonight!

I’d also give the Modor NF-1m a listen as well. I’m seriously considering it. 8 voices, MPE, etc. $650 US.

I’m still selling a Blofeld - no issues with the encoders, it works perfectly! Check the listing in FS section if anyone is looking for one. Happy to consider offers!
