Redshape Live [Ableton+Octatrack+Miami808]

Redshape Live [Ableton+Octatrack+Miami808]

Hello,

I looking for little help tu understand better how Redshape working and what’s your point of view. I take Redshape example because his live config is quite near the config i have, also, the music i do is quite in the same atmosphere (but redshape is better hahaha, he’s very strong for me)

Can you explain, what do you think he does, how he’s organized for his live.
He have Ableton Live + Octatrack (for Live performance) out by RME audio baby face + A drum machine miami808 for drums… and Controller.

How do you think he worked ?
some idea there ?
Do he synchronised Ableton + Octa with a syncgen II pro or Acme4 or something like that ?

Thanks a lot for this who made Live too and share their experience in a live performance/stage point of view

In an interview he says “I have 3 different setups; a home setup up where I use drum machines, Moog synths and a lot of external hardware, the tour set up where I switch between a small drum sampler and a small analog synth”

So maybe i told that’s an octatrack maybe i’m wrong and it’s an analog4…

As far as syncing goes it’s hard to see without a hires video. Bummer coz I’d like to know too. More to the point: if he’s managed to sync Octrack/Ableton without an external device I’d like to know how.

Yep it’s definitely an Octatrack. Sounds like he’s using it purely to sequence and effect 909 samples. There’s a few other recent PAs of him using the Octatrack in the same way.

As far as audio routing it looks like he’s got the Octatrack main out on one input on the mixer, the Miami main out on another input, and Ableton running into another 2 inputs.

The Miami looks to be running through a ProCo RAT 2 distortion pedal.

Oof good shout. Redshape is a modern techno legend.

Excerpt from an interview when he played Basing House in London below. Hope this helps!

B&B: About your live show at Basing House…how it will works and the setups you are currently running?
Redshape: My traditional setup, Faderfox – drum controller, UC – 8 channel (harmony) mixing desk, Octatrack – extra live drums & stuff & a 4 channel DJ mixer to put all this together. No prepared breaks or arrangements, only 1 bar loops, 1 hit samples sequenced and arranged live.

His setup is easy to figure out, no idea why no one else can on this thread…he has a CME control surface and faderfox controlling ableton for the main portion of the live set. The Octatrack and Miami are just perc, hat, and drums. There’s a rat distortion pedal routed to the miami to beef it up a bit. the midi are all thru to the RME, Ableton is prob the master in this setup. However I use a similar setup and have it slaved to the Octatrack.
