Hey everyone! I’m a total beginner when it comes to music and sound gear. I just bought my first piece of actual “makes sounds” gear, the Model:Samples.
Before this, I have been making some tracks using my Launchkey Mini MK3, which was pretty easy to figure out how to use it with Ableton Live since it’s just a MIDI controller.
Now, I want to record each of the 6 tracks from my Model:Samples into Ableton Live as separate audio and/or MIDI tracks. From what I understand, MIDI only captures the notes and not the actual sound of it, is that right?
I’ve managed to record one audio track, but right now all 6 sounds are going into the same track in Ableton, which makes things a bit messy.
So my question is: How can I record each track from the Model:Samples separately in Ableton Live? Thanks a lot!
yep
you cant multitrack from the model samples as it doesnot have separate outs for each track and does not support overbrideg. the only way would be to record each track individually one at a time (ie muting all but tr1, record, then repeat but muting all but tr2 etc etc) and then aligning each ofthose audio tracks in ableton once youre done.
If you connected a MIDI out from a USB interface to your M:S, you should be able to send it transport start/stop and MIDI clock messages. This should keep the recorded audio tracks in Ableton in sync with each other and make the process easier.
There is (was ?) a tool which helps with extracting the 6 tracks called underbridge. Searching the forum should get you there, but beware there’s more than one thing called underbridge.

Just to add (from my experience with my Model Cycles). Using midi for syncing clock and start/stop is key. You can also pan two tracks hard left/right and record them to separate tracks in Ableton at the same time, which saves you 3 tracks to track individually. Of course this only works, if you add reverb and delay later.
Once you have a working setup, save it and use it as a template for your next recording session.
