Recording one interface, into another?

So this is going to sound absurd, and I’m sure I’m just overthinking this, but I’ve gotten myself into a pickle here.

A colleague of mine and I are working on a project together, but our setups are completely different:

I’m on Windows, he’s on Mac.
I use Ableton, he uses Logic.

And neither of us have, or really want, a mixer.

He has a Scarlett Solo interface, and I have the 6i6.

Would it be safe to route his interface into mine directly? I’m sure as long as we keep levels proper we should be alright, but I’ve also never tried this so I’m not 100% sure of any possible mishaps.

We do send stems and waves when we aren’t in proximity, this is more of a “when we jam” type scenario.

If you only jam this way why should it be a problem to do it this way?
But maybe a small mixer could be useful - if you have hardware boxes too.

Does the interface have hardware monitoring mode?
If not, input will have to go through DAW/software and you will experience latency.

Could be an issue.

Thank you both for your replies!

I ended up taking his headphone output and running it into my Maschine’s inputs, and both of us were plugged into his monitors. This was the easiest solution and worked great for our sound.

Again, thank you both so much!

Glad you didn’t have any data strain.
