Recording gear

Looking to maybe up my quality on recording…I was thinking of just a field recorder because I could use it for other things outside home studio but when you get into the H6 prices it seems like it might be more cost effective to get a focusrite audio interface (or similar) and record going into logic (or other DAW).

I would mostly just be recording my own tracks for my personal consumption and using it for better quality audio when shooting some video.

problem is one usage case leans towards audio interface while the other leans towards field recorder…what do you guys like that can do a decent job in both scenarios?

Tascam DR-07. I have not found a reason to upgrade.

Excellent as a field recorder, same goes for studio recordings.

almost pulled the trigger on dr-40 with $25 off rebate but I’ve seen several videos of people complaining about noise when anywhere near a cell phone

this isn’t completely abnormal with electronics but some of those complaints said their audio was ruined even with the cell phones being a few feet away

The H6 has a module that can replace the onboard mic that will add two more mono inputs. Keep in mind that it won’t work as a straight up audio interface, it only streams stereo over USB so you’ll have to record onto the H6 to get multitrack.

I use a DR-40 for all my recordings…& my iPhone is never more than an arms length away most of the time - never had a single issue…??
