Recording chromatic trigs with external midi

Probably just a thing I overlook but I can’t seem to find the setting for recording midi notes that I play on an external device. I’m trying to record parts that I’ve programmed in a midi track of logic 9.
The OT receives the notes because the OT plays the notes (and the according sample) in chromatic mode but I can’t seem to record the notes as triggers. The only thing that I’v managed so far is recording the output of the track were I send the midi data to on another track where I assigned a pickup machine to.
Suggestions?

if I remember correctly… the last 2/3 octaves on a keyboard are the notes that controll the chromatic function of your octatrack… As in transpose your keyboard until you can use the last 3 octaves… press buttons… you should hear difrent notes playing… instead of just the retriggering of sample… go down the keys until this behaviour stops and voila
you know what keys are for chromatic stuff…
I think the keys inthe middle octave controll the pickup-machines

That is indeed the case. I can play those notes and the sample responds to whatever pitch that I’m playing but I can’t seem to record those notes. The only solution I have so far is as I mentioned: to record the output of the track where I’m sending notes to on another track with a pick up machine.

Been trying some stuff and I noticed that I can hear the samples playing with the pitches I recorded in logic but I can’t see them on the mini-keyboard in the OT’s display. The plot thickens.

Maybe a silly question but…

if your in grid-recording mode / XOX-style programming… pressing a trigger and a note, should set the correct pitch… but I bet you want Realtime recording…

pressing record = gridmode / X0X-style (led turns red)
pressing PLAY + record = Realtime recording mode (led blinks)

If you was doing realtime recording… and it doesnt work… Houston u got a problem I have no clue how to solve… (find a smarter person then me)

if you havent tried that yet… Give it a spin… because that should be the way to
“record the data of you playing some tune on your keyboard controlling the pitch”
so you can play back or edit that data.

Hope it helps…

that grid mode trick was unknown to me but seems like a handy trick if you need to program things fast. Unfortunately I was trying realtime recording to transfer some midi tracks that I’ve created a long time ago into the OT. Thanks anyway!

aw… in that case I am a bit puzzled… if something pops into my head… I will revisit this thread and add more suggestions…

Good luck with finding the smarter_guy
